QUEST to build the baddest hyper *PICS*
So,
I've been wanting to build the baddest looking hypermotard (baddest looking 1st, baddest performing 2nd... so appearance mods will come 1st). My expected outlay will about $20k, including a slightly used hyper (non S since I'm changing out all the "S" parts) with $10k purchase price.
I'm not going to do it piece by piece, intead I'm planning ahead so all mods and parts fit together well, and the design is coherent. This has to be the most over the top (classy), beautiful, extreme hyper that I see anywhere. My 749R is that bike now, this hyper will be even more.
MUST HAVES:
-pressurized motogp forks
-BST wheels
-CMC rotors
-carbon nose piece
-ceramic coated black 2-1 termi
My dilemma is red frame or black frame as starting point?
OPTION 1 "R REPLICA": a 749r/999r/1098r replica, red with gold accents (pressurized gold forks etc.) white face and tail accents to replicate the "R" design. This would include a carbon nose piece painted mostly red with some naked carbon showing through... not sure which company design yet but carbon-dry makes a cool looking one. The tail could be sourced from italy... similar to the red bike in the pic below, but open to any creative/cool solutions. Blend of red/gold/white and carbon accents.
OPTION 2 "BLACK/CARBON DREAM": an all black/ clearcoat shiny carbon bike. BST carbon wheels, CMC matrix rotors, and a few gold accents like pazzo levers, gold clutch plate and cover, carbon nose piece again with naked carbon showing through. This picture of the Shift-tech's bike is but a hint of the look I'd be want for option 2, except I believe guido should have started with a black frame, and I'm going for more unique bodywork (have yet to find the right/most creative) manufacturer. Rizoma mirrors and grips, good blend of carbon/black/gold accents.
I'm pretty undecided here... anyone want to participate (donate ideas pics to this project?)

Well I would have to say the R replia idea has me interested. I really like the idea you were describing with the nose piece. While the blacked out carbon look is always cool,it has been done and will be done again. If you really want the baddest hyper the R replica seems like the way to go to me.

what are the most unique features of an 'R' that would help this hyper be identified as such.
gold forks
light rims
magnesium where possible on engine casing
white number plates
red bike/red frame
gold clutch plate/clutch cover
carbon everywhere
some "hypermotard R" or "1100R" stickers custom made
tall race-replica front shield (Might be tough on this one?)
what am i missing?

Red frame, then all carbon would be cool. Gold for the bits where you can get it (forks, shock).

next question is what are the best/most unique carbon tail and nose pieces?
Also, I have seen a few exhaust solutions (undertail/side upturned exhaust like the termi 2-1/ low side exhaust.) and I'm still trying to figure out what the most trick setting is. Right now I'm thinking the termi side 2-1 is the way to go... anyone seen anything else?

You have nearly 10k in "must haves". I bet you get closer to 30k into this project to do everything you want. I admire your intentions though. IMO, buy a used Hyper for 9k. Sell the 749r for 15k and buy a 1098r! I bet you could get the one at my dealer for 35k. Total out of pocket would be about the same. Then you would have Ducati`s most fun bike and the baddest REAL r version ever! Just food for thought. If you do build the Hyper, the black/ carbon gets my vote. Never really thought much of fake "r"`s

My opinion is carbon fiber is so played out as to be silly looking when it is over used. Killer paint is alway the best looking with a small bit of CF to accent some things.
