Getting ready to install new flywheel!

I ordered it from Nichols along with the nuts they sell. I am planning on putting it on tomorrow... you guy have any install tips?/ Or any common mistakes I should avoid?

You need a couple of special sockets , I don't have the list in front of me but they are listed in the Nichols info. You will need a friend to stand on the rear break to get the proper tork. All in all it is strait forward just take your time + you can call Nichols and they will help.

I did... I searched "flywheel Installation" and came up with alot of info but not much on installing. This is the best info I found Nichols Flywheel

Sounds like a stright forward job but know that plenty of people on here have already done it didnt think it would hurt to ask advise.

Do you have the puller for the side case ? if you do then all you will need are a couple of sockets. The directions are very good / all your questions will be answered. Don't worry.

One solution is to use the shaft cover a small socket and two longer screws to pull the case, but this piece is cast so caution is needed. I was able to just tap around the case as I was pulling on the case and it came free with no puller needed.

The hardest part was getting the T25 torx screws out of the flywheel. The best quality bits that I have found are made by GRK Fasteners and can be found in better quality independent lumber stores. They are green in color and can handle 10 inch #12 deck screws being driven by my Bosch impact driver. They are in the section where they sell deck screws.

Another important thing is to match the key cut on the shaft with the small bleed hole on the face of the flywheel as this provides lubrication to the one-way bearing. I lubed the bearing when I installed it to be safe.

Thanks for the info. I just got it done and took it for a spin....feels like a different bike. I cant belive how fast it revs to the limiter.
The install was easy. To remove the side case I was able to tap around it with a leather hammer and work it off. The T25's were a little difficult but nothing major. Lining up the flywheel,sprauge, and gear assembly was a little tricky too. After that the rest was cake.

put it on a Dyno and let's see some numbers ...

Anyone else use a Nichols flywheel vs having the orig lightened

and balanced ? Is the Nichols Flywheel balanced ?

Im sure the nichols is balanced, but there isnt much weight there at all. As far as a dyno I hope to be able to do that when I put the Power Commander on the bike. I dont think the flywheel swap will yeild any actual horse power but it does let the avalible hp transfere to the ground faster.
