New Owner questions

Greetings all,

After lurking for a year, I finally pulled the trigger in order to take advantage of the financing.

While reviewing the documents related to the sale, the dealer stated that Ducati no longer issues the "red key" when purchasing a bike as it is no longer required.

Is this consistent with current information from Ducati?

It was my understanding that the red key may have at one ime controlled the vehicle security system.

Any help on this matter would be helpful as I pick up the bike Thursday.

Best regards,

Joe

You should have gotten a card that has a 5 or 6 digit number. This number is like the red key. I wrote that number inside my owners manual in case the card came up missing.

Red key

Thanks to all for the quick reply.

I pick up the bike Thursday evening or Friday, depending on my work schedule. I will look for the code and record the data. Thanks for the tip!

Any other newbe tips regarding set up....I plan to adjust the shifter to fit my foot and riding position well....

Best regards,

Joe

The red key caused a few people a lot of heartache and it always causes confusion on the used bike market. Getting rid of the red key is one of the wisest choices Ducati has made recently.

If you have a red key bike, and I'm guessing a lot of us of have at one time or other, just protect the key by storing it in a safe place.

If you have a Duc that doesn't use the red key, count your blessings.

It's a headache that I'm glad I no longer have.

Basically it's a super special top secret key that if you lose it it cost you up to $2000 to replace. So I was told.... I didn't lose mine but I had one with my 2003 Monster.
