I picked up my hyper with problems can anyone say they have experianced the same
I picked up my new hypermotard this afternoon and noticed on the short drive home that there was a grinding noise coming from what I think is the front end. It only happens when I am taking off from a dead stop. It should elaborate and say its not a grinding noise but more of a vibration noise but it sounds like metal on metal vibration. I first thought the brakes are dragging but having worked on bikes and cars for years I know what dragging brakes feel like and this wasnt it. its like the vibration or squeeking you get when rubbing your finger across a piece of clean glass but instead of glass it sounds more like metal on metal. The weird thing is when I test rode the demo the last time the demo did the same exact thing. (no I didnt buy the demo) I also test rode other hypers in the past that were new but didnt do this and I rode a buddies hyper all day and his didnt do it either. I am wondering if any of you have experianced the same thing, if so did you find the cause and is there a solution? it may just need to break in a bit but I would like to know what is causing the noise.
thanks in advance.

Could it be the clutch, the Motard has a dry clutch. Dry clutched are louder. Does the noise go away when you pull in the clutch. It should, that would be normal.

it does it briefly when taking off from a stop, that is the only time it does it, it doesnt do it every single time, I did a little bit of research on them there interwebs and found a thread where others were having a similar problem and they say its the clutch or pressure plate bearing which I think probably is the case. the clutch is not slipping per say noting that isnt normal anyway, bike has 12 miles on it. I also had an S2R1000 before this and it had a dry clutch and it didnt make the same noise (ever). That being said, you guys have never heard anything abnormal. This isnt a noise you would miss, even someone who isnt in tune with there mechanical ability would hear this, its something you hear and feel, you can feel the vibration thoughout the bike when it happens.
apprecate the help.

Mine did this a few times when it was new. At first, I thought is was the front brake sticking. I read somewhere else that is was just clutch chatter and that it would stop once it was broken in.
After a couple trips to work and back in traffic, it went away.
That was 1500 miles ago. No problems since.

I had a chance to put some miles on her today and the noise was there when I left this morning. It disappeared half way through the day though, so I am guessing that it was the pressure plate wearing in / breaking in.

A whopping 850 miles so far (I know, pathetic) but zero problems. If you are still concerned, I would contact the dealer and DNA just to establish a record of the problem.
