Hypermotard or KTM 990SM
Has anyone here chosen the Hypermotard after test riding the KTM?, after reading the forums the extra BHP and larger tank of the Supermoto seems attractive, why did you, or would you choose the Hyper over the KTM?

I don't know anyone who has ridden both and chosen between them. If they did and chose the HM I guess it would be because they didn't care for the extra practicality of the SM, because they prefer the looks of the HM and because it is a DUCATI.
Me? I rode 'em both (and the Tuono, and the Speed Triple) and chose the SuperDuke over all of 'em.

I guess you didn't read David.Hicks reply then. His answer wasn't 'Ducati.'

your point being?
I think most reviews would place the KTM over the HM , but if its motorcycle art' you're after , i doubt many would buy the ktm.
oh, yes, reading isnt my forte- I prefer to go off half cocked.
I'm sure the answer is different on a ktm forum.
Oh, to the original poster, see recent thread on swapping a SM990 ( or superduke) for HM.
out.
flameproof jacket on.check.

I have ridden both. I actually riding the KTM is what made me decide I wanted a motard type bike. Honestly after riding the hyper I dont really think they should even be catogorized in the same class.... The KTM is more like a Touno, speed tripple, Z1000 kinda bike. I would consider that more of a naked bike
Where the hyper is more like a DZR400 with more power.... more of a true motard in every sence.
If you must compare the Hyper and the KTM head to head. The KTM weighs 25lbs more I think and you feel every bit of it. the hyper turns in better and is more agile in low speed tight stuff, the KTM is more stable in high speed (read over 115mph) sweeps.
Power wise the Ktm does make more power and has alot of top end over the hyper, maybe 15mph more. off the bottom end both bike make a ton of TQ I would say thet are pretty even however I do like the way the hyper make power a better than the KTM... JMHO
As far as the range I think the KTM will do about 125miles on a tank that is with a full exhaust riding spirited. My hyper with cored pipe, cat, and the airbox mod will doo 100miles. For me personally 100, 125....whats the difference? I will be buying the larger tank when its is done.
The biggest thing to consider is that the KTM doesnt have a dry clutch and doesnt come in Ducati Red....so where is the cool factor?

Are you talking about the KTM Supermoto or Superduke (and I sure wish they'd lose the 'super' monikers...I feel like we're talking AMA racing!) in comparison to the Hyper?

I was talking superduke... Sorry now that I look back he was asking about the supermoto. Disregard my earlier coments.

From that way the new 2009 SM is going to look I think the Hyper will be outclassed in every aspect and possibly in looks too. But it won't matter to me I really love this bike. Some one posted a pic ot the new SM and it look like a real racer.

Unfortunately, KTM sold like, 16* Supermoto's in the last three years, so the 990SM isn't coming here. Good thing - I can't afford it!
* I'm joking...but I may not be that far off!
