Question 46MPG and PP 2CT Stuffed 3000km And A Pic

Good morning gents

Ok, on our return trip yesterday I got 46 MPG, we were sitting at around 140 - 150 km/hr (93m/hr) for a good half of it and 120 -130 km/hr for the rest (81m/hr).

So I get 176 km (110miles) and used 10.8L (2.40 gallons) on the trip, my fuel light had no come on and I thought they were supposed to come on at 3 litres +~- left.

So, when does your fuel light come on and how many litres do you have left?

Based on this consumption I should get 200km to a tank which I am not unhappy with.

Anyway, chime in for the fuel light cos I wonna know if my light may not work.

Also, my PP 2CT has just done 3000 km (1875 miles) and is on the wear bars, fizzed edge to edge and decidedly second-hand looking, I got 7700 km on my last one on my MH900e Malattia, have they changed the compound or whats the story?

That's the update gents and here is one pic from our trip

I dont think the capacity of the tank is actually 3.3 gallons. More like 2.9

I get 120 miles to a tank, light goes on at about 100 and I've run it almost dry and never put in more than 2.8

Well, I have been getting 56 - 70 miles refueling with 2.5 - 2.7 Gallons. I'm hoping its an odometer issue but I havent figured that out yet. If it's correct I'm getting around 22.5 MPG.....

How did the windshield work out?

might have changed compound, but more likely due to LOTS more torque from the hypertard than from the 904cc single spark engine in the mh900e.

Hmmm, that mileage is what my truck does, how did you run your bike in?

The screen was simply magic, wind of my chest to just below my helmet so no buffeting at all to the helmet.

Nice to sit behind and quite relaxed to 160 - 170 km/hr, after that the office work goes up a bit.

I am stoked with it and may even just leave it on, I will finish out the rubber edging this week and send my brackets away to be black powdercoated now that I have it how I want it.

It's still in the break-in period. I have around 520 miles now.

Did it get better after?

Yes the torque I expected would deal to it a bit more but not twice as much or under half as long.

Gonna try the Pirelli Syncs, mate has them on his KTM950SM and loves them, tracks the bike as well and says no issue with traction, I thing our very coarse tar seal also with be better with Syncs.

parkcrf, our mileage is similar, maybe a few more km and the light would have come on, will run it out this week while armed with a jerry can just to see for myself.

Monstaman,

Over in siderknee I am getting in the week (of commuting in traffic) about ~170km before the light comes on, and i fill up at about 180 and get somewhere like 11-12 liters in. I have pushed upto 200 before tho with a good consistent ride.

Now call me a fuktard if you will but I think this is GREAT mileage for a big twin. My old RC51 SP2 that did the same weekly commute I used to fill up at 200km because the light came on at about 180km and that bike had an 18L tank!! so all these people coming from nice IL4's with great fuel economy can suck my plums at nearly 200km for 11-12L I think its great!

as for rear rubber, bad suspension, hot roads (but looking at the pic it wasn't that) low pressure and or a heavy right hand could be the cause, but i bet it was a fun 2000km!!!

ped

Yeah my RSVR was a grunter and used a shitload more juice than the Tard so I am not unhappy about that.

Suspension is setup nicely, not hot roads, 32 PSI cold rear 28 front, I like the gas but 2500 of the 3000 were "running it in", not a huge straight line speed dude but hang it out in the twisties.

Hmmmm, it just seemed to have evaporated quicker than I thought .. might go buy a step through

Gee 32 rear! thats soft IMHO for the road, I'd imagine you'd hot tear that to shit. I go for 37 in the back of mine and get great grip and response, I use 32 at the track where you can heat the whole carcase up not just bits at a time. and as for 28 on the front I don't know how you do that, steering and braking must be pretty soggy, I'm up at 33-34 on the front.

next time you go for a good hack take a pic of the wear on the rear and post it, if its got ribs of rubber and ridges/lips front or back of the tread patterns then something is wrong.
