Leaking Battery Problem
I don't recall anyone else having this problem but it may be something to keep an eye on. Seems like an easy fix with some duct tape.

Not good! All kinds of stuff can cause a leaking battery.............overcharging, radiant heat from the motor or exhaust, badly sulfated battery, overfilled battery, etc.
Hopefully, it doesn't become a plague and nobody is hurt.
Out!

Wait a sec - battery acid ate through the tank? Sorry but I'm calling BS on that one. Acid won't eat the plastic, it won't eat through the battery either. If both were leaking I'd have to guess something got wedged in between the two and vibration wore a hole in the tank and battery.

Exactly. Dirt and vibration make quick work of plastic. I think I'm going to pull my battery and line the well in the tank with something for a tighter fit, and to prevent this from happening.

The guy claimed the bike is only a week old with 170 KM on it... That would be some major vibration to cause a leak that quick. I agree that I don't believe that the battery acid would eat through the plastic though. Maybe that spot is just a weak point in the tank. It's scary no matter what caused it.

Maybe the battery worked loose, and beat on that area of the tank. Maybe a flawed tank as well. Regardless, I plan on doing something to mine. I've cleaned gravel/sand out of there that was obviously working on the plastic.

No matter what there is something more to the story. The battery AND the tank leaking means something put a hole through both - and it wasn't acid. I didn't think to look at the area on mine earlier but is there a way road debris could have done it?

Small rocks thrown from the rear wheel get lodged between the battery and tank. They can easily wear through the plastic. I lined the bottom and sides of the battery compartment with some rubber diaphragm material about 1/8 inch thickness. You can get this stuff from the hardware store. Periodically I remove the battery and clean out the debris. You would surprised by the amount of stuff that can collect in there.
