Smile Got Something New...

I just got something new for the Hyper the other day...

The world's very first Sargent Hypermotard saddle. Apparently Sargent was running behind on getting their prototyping work done on a Sargent seat for the Hyper because they didn't have a stock seat base to work with - hence their changing the original timeline for one on their website from this fall to next spring. In discussing this with them I gladly volunteered my stock seat and pan and they said they could get a Hypermotard on hand for a few days to do their measurements, etc.

So this past Monday I received the re-worked saddle from them and it looks great. I have been quite busy this week so I have not had a chance to mount it to see how it feels, and it doesn't help that it has been raining here most of the week, either. But, I am going out to the shop to install it in just a bit, and I hope to have some pics to post here this evening or in the morning.

Stay tuned...

Awesome! I've been looking forward to the Sargent seat. I helped them out last year trying to get a doner bike and it looked like they were on track to get one done. Nice to hear they finally got it done.

I had a Sargent on my Super Hawk and it was remarkable how much more comfortable it was.

Hey Dallara, does the seat have any sort of storage space in it? Seems like they mentioned it would on the website. I've been on their waiting list and I just need to see the seat to decide whether or not to wait for it or have my standard seat re-fitted here in Denver by a custom company.

Looking forward to pics...

Yours was a custom one off, sounds like his is the first of a production series.

What's the story with the Sargent seats? I've been on the pre-order list since they started taking names, and I called them a month ago and was told they were delayed until maybe the end of the year.

Lightbulb Sargent Saddle...

Hey again, Folks.

First off, as someone else here stated, this Sargent seat you are about to see was NOT a custom one-off I asked them to do for me and to my specific specifications and desires. Quite the opposite...

I gave them the green light to make it the way they hopefully would be making the production saddles. The only things I was going to specify was whether I wanted the "Tricolore" patch on it and/or any piping and what color it might be - just as anyone would be specifying if they were ordering a production Sargent saddle. They did speak with me on the phone a couple of times to ask what were things I liked, disliked, etc. about the various Ducati saddles. They mainly asked these questions because they knew I had owned all three available ones from Ducati - the stock one, the gel "Comfort", and the DP "Race" seat. As I told them, I thought the DP "Race" seat was by far the most comfortable, with both the stocker and the gel being too soft. They also asked me my opinons about shape, angle, width, etc., but they weren't asking me to specify how I wanted the finished saddle, but instead what I didn't like about the Ducati seats, etc.

To answer another question... No, this seat I got from them does NOT have any storage area incorporated in it because it still uses my stock seat pan. They said they used my pan to make some sort of mold off of so they could use that to have their own seat pans produced, but that those would be quite some time in the making. I could either wait for those for a month or two, or have them make the proto seat up on my pan and get it to me in weeks instead of months... I chose the "weeks" option.

And actually, they worked incredibly fast, IMHO, getting me the finished seat back in about three to three-and-half weeks after they had my stocker.

I can't guarantee it, but it is my understanding that the production seats will have some sort of small storage area as many of their seats do. They could not tell me how big it would be, or even where in the seat it would. Please note, they did say they may skip the storage area since the seat bolted on, but they were not sure. Most likely it would have a small storage area.

Also note that this may not be EXACTLY how the final production saddles will look, but they should be pretty close... with perhaps minor detail differences.

So now, fellow Hyper-Freaks, without further adeiu, here are some pics to illustrate what production Sargent saddles will look like... I will follow with a ride report once I have put some miles on it.

First, here is right-side view of my bike with the Ducati Performance "Race" Seat on it for comparison:

Now, here is right-side picture of the bike with the Sargent installed:

Here's the left-side with the DP seat again:

And the left-side with the new Sargent saddle:

Here's a right-side front three-quarter of the DP seat:

And a right-side front three-quarter of the Sargent:

A front left three-quarter of the DP seat:

And of the Sargent:

Here's a detail shot of the "Tricolore" trim done on the right side:

And some other various shots of the Sargent saddle:

Gratuitous picture of one of my vintage CZ motocrossers...

I do have some additional pictures of the Sargent saddle from other various angles. If anybody wants any views you haven't seen here let me know and I will try and post them.

Hope this helps!
