Turn Signals - "LAMP/LED" menu selection question
I have searched and read everything I can find on using LED turn signals and I haven't come up with a clear answer to my problem. I hope somebody can help!
I removed the OEM hand guard/turn signals and hooked up some LED front turn signals but now I've got a rapid flash rate. Although it's something I could live with if I have to, I'd like to slow it down if possible.
There's a menu selection in the "hidden menu" that apparently allows the selection between "LAMP" and "LED". I messed around with it but it did not do the trick. When I set it to LED the indicators don't work at all. So, I wonder if that's because the rear signals are regular incandecent light bulbs?
Anybody know the skinny on this? Specifically, my question is this: if I switch to LED turn signals (front and rear) with no resistors or load balancers, will setting the menu to "LED" make everthing work right?
Any and all insight, thoughts and/or comments will be most helpful and greatly appreciated!

Still my question is not exactly answered. The question is this: if I replace both front and rear indicators with straight LED signals (no resistors or load balancers) and set to the "LED" selection in the menu will it (1.) work, and (2) will the flash rate be like that of the OEM set up?
FYI, I'd like to avoid the use of resistors or load balancers because I understand they create heat. If that's the only way to slow the flash rate down, I'll probably just opt to live with the higher flash rate. However, if I can just replace the rears with LED indicators (I've already replaced the fronts) and change the menu setting to "LED"and that works, I'll do that.
Thanks for the reply!

answer, no. for some reason the menu LED selection will not stay set. I have not resolved this on my bike with the motrax signals, they are still messed up. My last email to Motrax went unanswered. I will bother them some more.

Hi yota,
Well that's disappointing.
In my case, when I switch to the "LED" setting it seems to stay set. I say that because when I set it to LED, the signals don't really work at all, then when I reset to LAMP, they work fine except for the rapid flash problem.
Please tell me, are your Mortrax indicators on the rear? What do you have on the front?

my logic in saying that it won't stay set is that mine does nothing different and when I go thru the drill again it says "lamp" again every time.

forget all the settings. Leave it on LAMP and install resistors. Follow the link to my webpage, goto Tech->HYM LED Turn Signal, there you find all and everything.

I have motrax "allycators" both ends. when I just had them on the front everything worked fine. when I added them to the rear a month after I did the front everything went to hell.

Hi Vdue,
Thanks for some very good info! I think even I can follow that and calculate the appropriate resistor.
I am, however, still reluctant to install resistors because of the heat warnings. My flash rate is elevated from normal, but I don't think it's bad enough to justify dealing with the heat worries.
Anyway, I'm still curious about the "LED" menu selection. If there is some way it can be used to solve the problem, I'd sure like to know how...anybody know the answer?
Thanks again Vdue. I'll hang on to your info for future reference!
