New HM 1100S (600KL) Stalling and Jerking at 2000rpm

Hi to all,

New member from Scotland with my home in the USA on long term work in Malaysia. Purchased a new HM100s 3 weeks ago (Awsome) and have 600 KL on the clock, very rough idle and does not like to run below 2000 rpm, has now started to stall and jerking badly at at this range. having to slip the clutch allot in slow traffic.

Due its 1st service at 1000 KL

1st Ducati so bear with me...

My 2nd bike is a MV 910 Brutale Italia (Also purchased in Malaysia)

Will be taking to the shop soon but would appreciate any input

Cheers

ABL

P.S. Thought you all might appreciate this:

I saw you roll up your window and shake your head when I drove by.
But you didn't see me driving behind you when you flicked
your cigarette butt out the car window.

I saw you frown at me when I smiled at your children.
But you didn't see me when I took time off from work to
run toys to the homeless.

I saw you stare at my long hair.
But you didn't see me and my friends
cut ten inches off for Locks of Love.

I saw you roll your eyes at our leather coats and gloves.
But you didn't see me and my brothers donate our old
coats and gloves to those that had none.

I saw you look in fright at my tattoos.
But you didn't see me cry as my children were
born and have their name written over and in my heart.

I saw you change lanes while rushing off to go somewhere.
But you didn't see me going home to be with my family.
I saw you complain about how loud and noisy our bikes can be.
But you didn't see me when you were changing
the CD and drifted into my lane.

I saw you yelling at your kids in the car.
But you didn't see me pat my child's
hands, knowing he was safe behind me.

I saw you reading the newspaper or map as
you drove down the road. But you didn't see me squeeze
my wife's leg when she told me to take the next turn.

I saw you race down the road in the rain.
But you didn't see me get soaked to the skin so
my son could have the car to go on his date.
I saw you run the yellow light just to save a
few minutes of time.
But you didn't see me trying to turn right.

I saw you cut me off because you needed
to be in the lane I was in.
But you didn't see me leave the road.

I saw you waiting impatiently for my friends to pass.
But you didn't see me. I wasn't there.

I saw you go home to your family. But you didn't see me.
Because I died that day you cut me off. I was just a biker.
A person with friends and a family. But, you didn't see me.

Repost this around in hopes that people will
understand the biker community.
If you don't repost this, It sucks to be you.

I hope you never lose someone that rides.
Have a great week my friends:

heart can't bare to say".

If its your first Ducati twin I can tell you it just jerky at super low rpms. I can ride mine super smooth in this L.A. traffic but I am slipping the clutch a little and dragging the rear brake to keep the tension on the chain. The Ducati DS motor has a ton of compression and is just sort of on/off at super low rpms...unlike 4 cyl. bike. Now it may be something else since your bike is stalling, but I had the same viewpoint when I first rode the Ducati twin....to ride it smooth in traffic and stop and go you have to be smooth with all the inputs...I haven't noticed it in years since I learned to ride it smooth, but I remember how it was that first couple weeks ...but then again that is only at very low RPMS and it shouldn't really be ridden in that range except in traffic or in town... lightly dragging the rear brake it a technique to eliminate the surging at very low rpms like if your doing a slow speed U-turn or lane splitting while approaching a stop light...it allow you to keep the mildest throttle on with out the herky jerky chain lash action.

I had the same problem with mine at exactly the same k's. These motors are tight when new - just think, tight tolerances, hot -> probably some binding-> stall.
Once mine was properly run in ( ie over 1000km), mine has been almost ( save for once or twice) stall free.
I'd just give it some more time. Also bikes running non EU/Aust etc ECU's seem to be more prone to stalling.

Many thanks for the valued advise, forgot to mention that it has also started stalling on deceleration from 3000 to 2000 rpm, especially when its a gradual decrease.

I still love this machine and will work through it (Purchased in Malaysia)

On my brand new HM, this is the main glitch I have found so far ( 500miles ). The bike is grumpy at low rpm. ( I had a 900SSf.i. and that thing was a dream to ride, very smooth at all rpms ). The problem was bad the first day, but it seems to be going away, the abrupt stalls when decelerating are going away too. I have the feeling it will go away with break in.
Thanks to ALL for this info.

running the engine in a too low rpm will destroy it.
do not ride below 3000 rpm at all, if you want to
accelerate from 3000 rpm, you are asked to downshift.
if you approach a stop, pull the clutch before the
engine gets below 3000 rpm, not to ruin
it either.

the oil-level should be checked several minutes
after the engine has been shut off, to give the
oil in the engine some time to come down into the
sump again.

bike has to be 100% vertical, to give an exact
reading of the level, if there is not enough oil in
there, just open the fill in plug ( have a good clean
to the area around it before ... ) and put some in.

cheers.

So I should set my idle at 3500 rpm?
