Centerpunched (in the tire)
Check out what my Hypermotard rear tire picked up on the way into work.
Fortunately, the centerpunch went all the way into the tire; else it would have torn off my rear hugger fender.
It held air until I got to work. We pulled it out and used a Tire Plugger to get me home where I promptly did a bunch of burnouts to the chagrin of my wife.

I prefer to pick up free tools on the road with my hand.....not the tire.

I had a similar thing happen at the track... although I think I have you beat in the "strange" department!
The size of the wrench is 13/64... it now makes a nice keychain.
The bike totally felt fine. As you saw in the pictures, the tire picked it up in the center, so cornering was still no problem since I was on rubber during the lean. The end is totally worn down so I probably did at least a few laps on it. My tire pressure was still good, and she didn't go flat till I pulled out the wrench.
I heard a couple people say that the "car guys" are probably the culprit. Someone told me that after car track days, you can find all sorts of tools in the corners from people driving off with them mistakenly stashed under the hood. Who in the world is using standard wrenches on their bikes? I guess its possible that I picked it up in the pits, but its more likely that I grabbed it on the track. I think the sticky rubber on the front tire lifted it up, the rear must have fallen on it perfectly, and the rubber was soft enough to let it go through instead of kicking it off. I don't think it could have ever happened on the street, and I don't think you'll ever see it again. The crazy physics gods are having a good laugh at my tire's expense.

I guess tire/wheel balancing isn't such a big deal

Crazy! I have seen some displays at tire stores with wierd stuff pulled out of auto tires, but nothing like a full set of Snap-Ons!
Out!

Did anyone ever tell you that once you have fitted the tire it is one tight enough, no need for more adjustment
Gezz just as well it wasn't a 15/16!!
That has to be one of the more unusual punctures I have seen, my worst was a bridge building spike/nail approx 6 inches long, brand new (60km old) tire, temporarily plugged it for the next 3500 km
