I read somewhere that a smaller guage chain and alu sprockets plus nuts is a good idea to reduce unsprubg weight..short of carbon fibre wheels has anyone done this mod?

If you're not racing it then it's just a waste of money. Even if you are racing it it's still a waste of money...

Because it won't give you any measurable performance advantage. Especially if you're not riding the bike in a situation where you can measure such a thing. You'll never notice it one way or the other on the street or doing trackdays, it's just not a big enough difference.

Essentially - yep. If you want to go to a 520 for performance then it's a waste. If you want to just to do it - then by all means go for it Just like I put on a vented clutch cover, pressure plate, stainless springs, exhaust etc... Not a bit of it makes sense for true performance given the way I ride but I like the fancy bits, they make me happy.

NCR is 20 odd kg or 44 pounds which is a considerable difference but also a considerable cost.
Cheapest and best way to make your bike go faster is to take your ass to the gym and work it off.
As Mongo says, unless you are racing and at the top forget it and enjoy your bike for what it is.

Or do as Mongo does and buy a lot of bling because if you can't go fast you may as well look good

BEST ADVICE I EVER HEARD WAS;
Spend $3000 on pipes, air cleaner, PCIII, cams or whatever that gives you the most performance possible for the price and your extra horsepower might improve times by 1 second per lap.
When you sell your bike, you lose any performance advantage you had, and you get minimal return on your investment.
Over the next 12 months when doing track days, spend $3000 on private tuition from the experts and your stock bike will be 5 seconds faster per lap.
No matter what bikes you buy or sell over the course of your life, you retain YOUR performance ADVANTAGE.
This investment in skill and knowledge may also save your life.
Happy learning
Ps. If tuition doesn't improve your skill, either you shouldn't be riding or you should be Rossi's team mate.
