the "not another exhaust question" thread....
1.Yes I've searched
2.All I wanted was the end cans ( Arrow>Zard Penta>Termis)-but then I did some reasearch.........
Now , today I spoke to a guy in Sydney who really seems to know his stuff ( all he does is dyno bikes). He said as mine's an '08 something to do with PC3 not being able to alter fueling below about 4800 so any exhaust change would need DP ECU,then PC3 then exhaust. Now I love my bike but this is getting ridiculous.
It was easier when bikes had carbs ( buy a few jets....)
Ideas?
Suggestions?
Comments?
It seems the 'cheapest' route might be the Termis
Thanks
Jonathan

I read here (yes, it is someplace in here) that the issue it is that the PCIII does not work al low RPM with a regular ECU (the one that comes original with the bike), since it a close loop one, in order to make the PCIII at all RPM range, you need a DP ECU (with an open loop), you can pick one from the 2-1 syetem, the one from the slip ons or the one from the cams set, all are open loop with a diferent range of A/F ratio

I have the Termi slip ons and I have no complaints. I got a deal with them when I bought the bike. I love the way the bike sounds and rides.
There are 3 ECU's as you will find from the other exhaust posts. The stock, slip on and the full system. Some have said you can find the ECU on ebay.
This post covers it pretty well Exhaust Exhausting my Bank Account

Agree with Hypremotard.
However, I am using Termi slip-ons with full DP exhaust (header and no cat). I'm using DP ECU (full for cams) but that's a different story.
IMHO if you just go with the slip-ons I don't think the ECU is going to be an issue for you, but there are those with significantly more expertise on this board. However, if you open things up more (i.e., remove cat and open airbox) then you will most likely need/want a different ECU (slip-on). Note: The "full" ECU comes with the cam upgrade. As Hypretard suggested, look on ebay for slip-on ECU. I will look and see which ECUs I have on the shelf, can't remember.

Exhaust...
I certainly don't want you to think I am refuting your friend in Sydney, but in my personal opinion you don't need a Powercommander PC-III. Understand, I like Powercommander products, and use one to great advantage on my Aprilia Tuono along with having one on a Yamaha of mine, to. I just haven't found the need for one on the Hypermotard...
Here's my set-up:
1.) Quat-D 2-into-1 stainless exhaust with titanium can. I paid $899 US for mine some time ago. Now they seem to have gone up to $1049 US from http://www.motowheels.com/ . You can see the exhaust system at http://www.motowheels.com/italian/myproducts.cfm?parentcategoryid=660|Ducati%20Exhau st&productID=5776&showDetail=1&categoryID=891|Hype rmotard%20Exhaust&vendoridtodisplay=0&filterFor=&c ollection=168|European%20Motorcycle%20Parts
2.) I used a DNA replacement air filter in the airbox. I got mine off e-Bay for $64.95 plus shipping (total $73.90 US) from the same seller in this listing - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=320306617471
3.) You can simply drill a hole in your stock airbox cover, or get the DP airbox cover for about $21 US... Or you can go another route, as I did, and use the GDS airbox lid replacement - http://www.gerhartdesignstudio.com/P...tm#FilterCover - I paid $36 for mine, and i like it because it is a nice aluminum piece and it provides more room for intake air under the tank.
4.) I located a Ducati Performance Termignoni 2-into-1 kit ECU from a forum member here for $300 - 350... I honestly can't remember.
5.) I bought a Technoresearch ( http://www.technoresearch.com/ ) VDSTS rig for "talking" to the Hyper's ECU. You can get all the neccessities like cables, etc., including software, for as little as $189 US. Check here: http://www.technoresearch.com/Produc...DSTS-Motorbike With this you can adjust fuel trim, reset your TPS, etc. YOu do need either a Laptop or compatible PDA to use this, though.
This has been sufficient to get my Hyper running wonderfully, with no hitches, glitches, flat spots, etc.... And it pulls strong and goes like stink.
If you wanted to go all the way and alter fuel maps, rev limits, change injection pulse bandwidth, etc. you can get Technoresearch's "Direct Link Race Performance" software for $150 US. YOu do have to buy the VDSTS rig above to get the necessary cables, etc.to use this, however.
Essentially you could duplicate what I got - a great exhaust, which is lighter than literally any other one available, an ECU, different air filter and airbox cover, and the necessary electronics to make any necessary adjustments for this level of modification - for the following:
$1049 + $74 + $36 + $350 + $189 = $1698
Less if you drill your own airbox cover and stick with the stock filter. You could probably even skip the Technoresearch VDSTS if your dealer will reset your TPS, etc. for you after you install the ECU. This could have you spending as little as $1400 for a complete exhaust system and a bike that runs great.
I should mention my Hyper ran okay when I installed the pipe, airbox lid, filter, and DP ECU. The Technoresearch rig just allowed me to fine tune it to run just a bit sharper...
All this is just for general information. Hope you can use it, and hope it helps.
Dallara

Dallara for President !!
That is so cool to the logistics worked out like that .. commendable and sensible!
With a bit of thought you can work through the system you like and make it happen without having to sell your wife.

personally I'd get the DP ECU, it sorted all the stalling issues with my bike, it will fuel the thing correctly as stock is too lean and it gets hell hot (and that was before this lovely 30c weather!) when at idle in neutral it lowers the revs to about 1250-1300 and when you click it in gear the revs change to 1400, this must be a fueling thing to stop the bike cooking when stopped. it should get rid of the flapper warnings when you get rid of that. and there is defiantly a shit load more power in the DP ECU.
IF i were to do it again I would
- get the arrows cans as they are sweet
- get a DP ECU off fleabay (full or slip on)
- get the full zard header kit (I'm going to soon)
- drill my airbox
- i don't give sweet FA to the airfilter, the open airbox lid lets sooo much water in when its pissing it down and I've not seen any proof of super extra power because of it
- buy everything from the US or UK as its at least %60 of the price here
need any help in sydney give me a PM.

No wonder you got yours sorted so quickly
I have the Termi slipons (rubbish construction and leaking welds), DP ECU and open box, I have drilled a 1 1/2 inch whole in the bottom of the box and I have the Zard full headers, cat elim and valve elim coming shortly and that will be me set in concrete as my bike seems to run strong and clean.
