Cool! That Yammi has to be a blast in the curves too.
Hey are you interested in loading that thing up and heading to 191 this weekend? I was trying to rally a few guys to do a trip, but nobody has committed. I am thinking of trailerin the Hyper for a long day trip or an overnighter.
Out!

See? There's another person I probably stood right next to at Indy and didn't even know it! Good to hear from you, Menace!
How's that little WR? They look like so much fun. I wouldn't mind picking up one of the "R" models for my wife so we could go play around and explore some easy trails. She's a little intimidated by my WR450F, but those 250's look perfect for her...

I've been lusting after the new WR. How would you describe the power? Saw one at the Rock Store this weekend...

I sat on one the other day and it sits taller than my Hyper

Menance,
Great to hear from you. Nice bike! However, I'm biased!
Toss on a Dubach Racing (DR D) pipe (or tune the stock), open the airbox, toss the environmental components, rejet, add a larger front rotor, and drink a glass of water. The Hyper-induced smile will permanently return using the placebo effect.
[Edit: Just saw the FMF. Nice!!]
Here is my Hyper's stable mate....but not motarded. I call it a VR450 or an electric start YZ-fied WR450.
Ride safe!

Compared to the Hyper its peanuts really. For a 250cc its holds its own but when compared to the 1100cc Hyper not even in the same league. I've got the FMF pipe & powerbomb header on it, K & N filter, smaller front sprocket, PC III and removed the airbox door so far. I haven't had it on a Dyno yet but my guess is its putting out around 28-30HP and its a revy little sucker so you need to keep it pinned to get the power. That said, it will power wheelie in first gear and you can bounce it up in second with some work. It does not have the pull your arms off acceleration of the Hyper.
On the freeway its a little buzzy but some of that is my fault for putting the smaller sprocket on it. It has 6 gears so with the stock sprocket 90-95mph is possible on the freeway. I topped it out at 84mph (with GPS) the other day but that was bucking a strong headwind. I think maybe 86-88mph top speed as I have it now. It holds its own on the highway to my surprise. I would not want to ride it for 200 miles on the freeway or anything but little 30-50 miles bursts are not that bad. It gets me between 50-60mpg too....
Where is gets fun is in the tight technical twisties. I hate to say it but it will outhandle the Hyper in that stuff, its so damn light. I think fully fueled with the mods I've done its about 280lbs. The power output is also very user friendly as it does not come on like a heart attack so you need to carry a little more corner speed but it can because of its handling characteristics. It seems to lean forever, I haven't yet found its limit.
Its also fun to take it off the asphalt and tromp around in the dirt a little. With the tires it makes it a little tricky but with its light weight and suspension it can really handle quite rugged terrain. I think I will throw a set of Avon Distanzia's on next. Anyway I have $6,300 into it total with mods and for the money its been fun. I eventually want to get a set of dirt tires/rims so I can just swap them out when needed.
Axe, That sounds like a good trip but unfortunately I have to work all weekend so its a no go.
Az Scott, Who knows we might have passed each other. Where did you sit? In the Ducati stands? I was across from that but was over there a couple of times. I was in the southwest vista near the top.
Tune FX, No need to rejet brother the little WR is fuel injected. I've got the PC III on it and can adjust with my laptop.....

I tried on one of those WR's about a month ago and really liked it a lot. It is tall but even at a generous 5'9" I'm okay on it. Hearing your experiences with it I may just have to go back for a test ride. Seems like a perfect little bike for mountain back roads that suddenly turn to dirt or gravel.

It is a perfect bike for that kind of stuff. The street tires the "X" take a little finessing on the dirt but it is doable because of the bikes light weight. The WR(R) looks like it would be a very good little dual purpose bike too. I've seen a guy put some Avon Distanzia's on his "R" so it was a little more asphalt friendly and it looked pretty good. I think I'm going to try those on the 17" rims next. Avon states the tire is for 90% street and 10% Dirt which would be about perfect for me.
