ECU and exhaust combos revisited
OK, searched and studied the forums and came up with the following ECU info:
1) Stock
2) Slip-on = 8% more fuel, no O2 sensor = 96519308B 2-1-2
3) Full system = 8% more fuel, no O2 sensor, no exhaust valve 96518708B
4) Full sys w Cams = 18% more fuel, no O2 sensor or valve = 96519208B
Current bike configuration is stock exhaust with ported airbox and K&N filter. Bike seems a little lean, but not much more than it did when totally stock.
I plan to install a LV cat eliminator with the Slip-on ECU that I bought on fleabay last night. I plan to leave the exhaust servo in place and operational for now, until I see how it sounds with out the cat. I go to work at 0500 and really don't want to piss off the neighbors.
Will also buy a vdsts basic from technoresearch to do the tps resets with.
Is there any other issues that I may have missed. Any problems with a used ECU connecting to a different bike? Key coding or what ever?

Treadmarks,
No issues with a used ECU as long as its good. You should be in good shape and quite happy with the results. Rideability, sound, running temp are all improved. My bike runs 25-30 deg cooler on average. I'm running the #96518708B with stock cans, K&N, and LV cat eliminator. Get the VDST, reset the TPS, and set the fuel trim for around +5 for starters. That shoud get you real close, throttle should be smooth and no decel crackle. +10 and higher and it gets a bit rich with the stock cans and milage takes a nose dive. Mine runs great and I didn't even touch the air bleeds (both 11/2 turns out). I have to get my bike on an analyzer but might just wait until I get the Leo SBKs on. I would ditch the EXUP valve.

Thanks for the feedback GMP.
I plan to ditch the exhaust valve, but not quite ready. I was thinking I might still need it to sneak out in the early mornings. Will have to see how much louder it is with the LV cat eliminator.
On my Buell, when I removed the stock exhaust with the servo valve, I got a check engine code. American Sport Bike sells an exhaust valve emulator the plugs into the servo motor connection that fools the ECU into thinking the servo motor is still connected.
I wonder if it is possible to make an emulator that fools our ECUs?

I have removed the cat and installed the LV cat eliminator but am still using the standard ECU, and the O2 sensor.
Question: do I need to change the ECU and if I don’t can I damage the engine (still have standard cans though) seems to run ok.
As for noise it is slightly louder with cat removed

Treadmarks,
What I mean by sound is that the tone changes slightly from the cat being gone and the mixture being richer, not neccessarily volume. Like you I commute with the bike a few days a week at 6AM. I also live on a lake between two mountains and any loud sound bounces around the valley like an echo chamber. Trust me its not a problem.
The valve motor is a servo, meaning that there is position feedback. I suspect the ECU looks for motor winding current as well as position. While interesting and possible to do, I cheated and went with a mechanical limiter as it was a lot faster for me to make up.
Jamesb,
Thats fine, mine ran OK like that too. They all benefit from a richer mixture (DP ECU) even if relatively stock.

Thanks again GMP.
Did you have a post, or any pics of your limiter?

Will do ASAP. I may remove it for better view as I don't need it now with my DP ECU.

I am about to put the Full Zard headers on which incorporates eliminating the cat and valve complete.
Best bang for buck I reckon http://www.desmoworks.com/index.php?...roducts_id=335
I have disconnected my stepper motor from the loom and don't have an error message coming up (yet), I am not sure if the slipons ECU has the functionality to disable the this or not?, anyone know for sure?
Or can it be disabled using the VDST?
This is the header set, look at the nice clean bends and flow of the rear header compared to the factory one.

I should also note the last night we revved the bike through to 4500 - 5000 rpm and there was no action from the stepper motor and the valve did not move one bit??

As quoted by treadmarks:
OK, searched and studied the forums and came up with the following ECU info:
1) Stock
2) Slip-on = 8% more fuel, no O2 sensor = 96519308B 2-1-2
3) Full system = 8% more fuel, no O2 sensor, no exhaust valve 96518708B
4) Full sys w Cams = 18% more fuel, no O2 sensor or valve = 96519208B
on the fuel 8%, is that it uses 8% more than a stock i.e is the mileage range greater or lesser with 2/3 upgrades, info appreciated
