Alternative Tire Balancing-Longer Tire Life?

Although I have a static tire balancer, I used Dyna Beads in place of stick-on lead weights to balance my tires at my last tire change. Dyna Beads are tiny round ceramic beads that are inserted through the valve stem. I use 1 oz in the front and 2 oz in the back. The claim is that they continuously keep your tires in balance, resulting in a smoother ride and less tire wear.

I can say that the ride is smooth and I have no unsightly weights taped to my wheels. Also, it takes me less time to put the beads in compared to using the static balancer. As for longer tire life, that remains to be seen. After about 1100 miles on my rear standard Pirelli Diablo, it still looks pretty good.

I just mounted my first tire and used the dynabeads because I didn't want to buy a balancer yet. seems to work fine. we'll see about tire life.....

I bought a spare set of wheels with tires for my wife's R1 and they came balanced with the dynabeads, so....I've reused them witht he new tires for her bike. The thing is, it is virtually impossible to tell if they help in extending the life of the tires. We've balanced the wheels, not balanced wheels, and have used the dynabeads, and I cannot tell a difference in tire life, but.....we can ride 500 miles in the rain on a weekend and the slower speeds and wet roads can result in up to 20% more tire life.

I went with the dynabeads on my xr650 tard. A little noisey at low speeds as the beads are getting together. Once you get rolling it smoothes right out though. Can't comment on increase tire life. Seems like the more fun you have, the faster they go!

Yes, I'm not convinced that I'm going to get any significant increase in tire life.

I'm certainly no expert but it seems reasonable that if you are dynamically balancing your wheels then tire wear would be more even. If that's true then you would get the best life out of the tires, riding style etc unchanged. Static balance would seem to be more susceptible to uneven wear as soon as something disrupts the balance.
