Track Day Tape
Got a couple of track days coming up in about a week at NJMSP and I need to tape my lights up ,I usually use painters tape. My question is do I need to pull the fuse for the lights ? It seems to get pretty warm and I dont want to melt anything but would like to avoid pulling body work to get to the fuses. Anyone with any info would be helpful...thanks

I like to pull the fuse on my bikes, but you probably won't have too much problem with the painters tape. I've had the light on before with the tape and it didn't create any problems. I'd be leary with some other tapes though as you'll have a mess on your hands.

Well, I use painters tape, and remove the fuse, since I remove the seat, to unplug the connectors for the blinkers, license plate and break light, I remove the right side panel and take the fues out..

Robert, what organization do you do track days with? On 9/27, I'll be at NJMP on my RC51. I'm a member of Team Promotion.

My track day preps
Pulling the fuse is the way to go ... easy to do, rhs flaring has the rubber fuse box, remove the one in position number #2 if my memory serves me well.
It is also easy to remove number plate assembly, indicators and rear brake light (30 mins). For that you do end up getting under the seat, removing connectors and tie-wrapping cables. You then discover some Italian aspects of your bike ... inconsistent bolt sizes and use of washers, rubber mountings that are torn by the factory / or dealer (I had the 1-2 system installed by dealer, maybe it was done then).
Painters tape is great, comes of easily (I have not done it with lights on.) One learning from my recent track day was that the bike number stickers given out on the day left lots of adhesive and torn-up when removing. I would recommend first laying down painters tape where you want to put the # stickers and then place the stickers on top of the tape. That way removal would be just like removing the painters tape.

I've been using wide black electrical tape without a problem. By design it has a high heat adheasive. It leaves no residue if removed in a day or two. Even over a running headlight no glue problems. I also remove the plate, tail light assembly, it's real easy.
