swapping ECU, any tips?
disconnect battery?
any special magical sequence with the key switch and mode switch?
also wondering what happens to the odometer...

oh ya,
also, are the header gaskets crush washers? are they reusable?

Good thread to explain setting your country code after ecu swap.
Hidden "Service Menu"
If its the slipon ECU, i would visually check the position of the exhaust valve with the stock ecu. I was unlucky and got a DP ecu that was closing the exhaust valve. So i had to modify the exhaust valve servo to trick the ecu into thinking it was still connected.
After reconnecting the battery. You will have to set your country and reset the clock. But the mileage is retained.
Since i just loosened the headers to fit my Cat eliminator, i dont know if the header gaskets are crushable. But i retorqued them and have no exhaust leaks. Im sure one of the old wise ducati poeple here can give insight.

Of course the service manual says to replace the seals. Just browsing also looks like the 2-1 termi system comes with the new gaskets. Not sure what your installing though.

Exhaust gaskets...
You really should replace the exhaust gasket if you take off the header pipes.
The OEM Ducati exhaust gasket are made of thin aluminum form into sort of a "U" shape on its side, with aluminum then on the top, inside, and bottom of the circular gasket. Inside this "U" section is an off-white composite material that gets compressed and sort of squeezes outward when the gasket is compressed. Neither the composite material and aluminum have any sort of "memory" so they do not return to their original shape and form... i.e. once they are compressed they are compressed forever.
One would guess they get "work-hardened" if they are run on the bike for any real length of time from the high of having to work in the exhaust port.
If you ever see a new Hyper exhaust gasket you'll know exactly what i mean.
Only saving grace is that unlike most Ducati parts they are cheap. I bought four the last time I was getting a set just because they were so cheap and I wanted to have a spare set around if I needed them.

that thread is helpful yes, but since i got my DP ECU seperately and with no instructions. and i have installed a full exhaust. i want to know basically how to swap ECU's, and if there is any magical order in which to to it.

Nothing special.
Disconnect battery. Remove right side fairing/shroud. Push in the little tab on connector which allows you to turn the cam locking device. As you rotate the connector latch/cam device(not sure what to call it) the connector will pull its self straight out. No worries of bending pins.
Unbolt the ecu and mount the new dp ecu. Make sure locator pins are facing towards bike. And make sure the grounding wire is under bolt head. Thats about it.
