Increased suspension travel

Anyone tried looking at replacing the shocks with longer-travel alternatives?? I mean 145mm rear is not really motard-like...

Also the forks... I recall my old Triumph 675 had these redundant shims in the forks, just taking them out would add 10mm to the travel.

I am thinking of a setup where I could use pre-load adjustment to change between asfalt/gravel...

What rider weight are the stock springs for?

Great post dude! finally someone is talking about riding stuff, instead of flaking paint or pink panties!

I think I read somewhere that Ohlins is coming up with $$$$ forks for HM... anyone know any details?

Is it not true that base is preferable over S because you're gonna spend all this cash on proper suspension anyway and who needs twin monoblocks for a light bike with high center of gravity anyway?

[EDIT] I did forget the forged wheels on S... whoopsie...

I would, but my hands are busy.... Si I just awarded myself 5 stars for this thread....

Saw those 46mm Ohlins forks on eBay... I am after INFORMATION at this stage, there is nothing on travel there.

What's the best one can do to the stock forks?
revalve possible?
25mm kit?
Just take to the tuner?

Also -- has anyone installed new rear? (longer travel/hydraulic preload, etc?).

Maybe it's in my head, and the length (of travel) doesn't matter, but I do have a case of 990sm suspension envy (stock WP is way better stock Ohlins, by the way). Not just for dirt, but also for highsides... Anyone noticed how hard it is to highside a real motard? That's because suspension travel saps all of the kick.

No, but I think it will get closer to 990sm in terms of ride envelope.

Red face Suspension...

Hmmmmmm...

And here all this time I thought the 1100-S not only came with forged aluminum Marchesini wheels but also an Ohlins rear shock, whereas the standard Hyper has a Sachs rear boinger...

At least my 1100-S did.

Oh, well...

Should I answer myself now?

Ohlins slaps its label on a lot of old design products that go into new bikes to give them a "premium" cred. There is Ohlins and there is Ohlins.

145mm of rear travel is just 20 more than a sport bike. I am more worried about forks though.
