Teckanicka-ology
I love this forum for it's occassional interesting discussions on technical stuff, and despise it for all the crap about "BLING".
Am amazed at how many of you raced down to the garage to see which way the handle bar clamp was mounted. We do go on with trivia ......................... the factory fitting instructions are a give away, you work it out. Can we move on.
Anybody want to start a thread that gets me exited? (Without naked women).

That was my first thought too. I've been waiting for the one liners to start streaming in.
Everyone has their own, distinct areas of interest. Performance mods and cosmetic mods seem to share equal time and interest through all the forums, at least during the couple of years I've been around. My guess is that trend will continue. If you scan back over the past few years you'll find that there have been some technical issues that the forums have helped solve and some that linger. You'll also find that some small businesses have cropped up when talented forum members realize they can market their ideas. Personally, I think that's pretty cool.
FWIW, I too really enjoy ride reports. I also like seeing how others have modified their rides. Plus, a number of threads have definitely helped my decision-making process (thinking mostly of the luggage and exhaust threads here). I definitely don't read every post or thread and I don't check into every forum either.
I don't think I can ask much more from an internet forum.

I don't want to be the one that gets you thrown out... Whoops! I mean "exited".
And actually, the handlebar arrow question is a rather interesting one from a technical standpoint - i.e. is there really any philosophical engineering reason for having the gap in the handlebar clamps being open toward the front or the back??? Are they thinking the bars are more likely to be sheared off in one direction or the other in the event of a crash? Does having the clamp gap one way or the other influence the rigidity of the upper triple clamp, even in a rubber mount???
Obviously it appears the Japs have one theory and the Italians have another, but maybe that's just aesthetics...
But hey, I'm game for any other technical discussions you might have in mind. I love learning about that kind of stuff!
What did you have in mind?
Combustion chamber theory? Flame front propagation? Intake and exhaust resonance? Crankcase pumping losses? Frictional properties of different bearing materials and surface finishes? Modulus of elasticity of different chassis materials - i.e. aluminum vs. steel?
Hey, if it's about motorcycles, and especially Ducati's, it's ALL good...

Yes, I'm all about reducing parasitic power loss due to positive crankcase pressure. What's your solution? I'll show you mine if you show me yours

My trick for reducing crankcase pressure pumping losses???
I never run the oil level up at the top of the sight glass, and as close to the minimum as I can... No more than about half way in the glass or below.
That and run the best vent I can - a Nichols in my case.
What's your's???
Thanks!

Intake and exhaust resonance? Do you mean snoring and farting?
Crankcase pumping losses? Better leave the misses out of this.
Frictional properties of different bearing materials and surface finishes? I said, leave the misses out of this! alright.
Modulus of elasticity of different chassis materials - i.e. aluminum vs. steel? I like them firm but soft, with nice curves.

But only the red ones, .................................... with bogus plastic bits.

Since we're talking about posting practices here, has everyone noticed how many people have been viewing the Hyper forum recently? For the last two days, that number has been in the high 200's when I've been online. Way more people than on any other forum.
We're usually running from the 80's to a little over 100, same neighborhood as the Sport Classics. What's up with the big numbers lately? Almost 100 more viewers than the Superbike forum.
