Yes, but it's no fun, although better than 1200GS...

Hyper in the dirt poll
How many on this forum actually take it off asphalt? I don't mean amazing double jumps and river crossings, but just dirt roads.
Avon Gripsters seem to be the right tires for this sort of thing, other options?
The way I see it, it is obviously too heavy and suspension travel is too short. If we say that sportbike suspension travel si 120mm and motards start at 21, Hyper is sort of 40% there. Weight-wise probably just 25% there. What's left is the rider's position and the leverage that it gives, which looks to be 90% there.
Any obvious ways to reduce weight apart from Termi 2-1?

Too heavy, wrong tires, wrong suspension, tall gearing, strong brakes, costly to knock over, etc....
That being said if you have the guts are careful you can take almost anything off pavement, just don't get in over your head. A few years back I took my old 900ss camping and it made it fine on all the gravel/dirt roads, I did have a close call with an invisible tree root/ramp haha. Once you're done just give the whole bike a good bath, chain especially!
Good luck!

Another tire option for a gravel road is the Pirelli Scorpion Sync. Stock tire for the Multistrada. Far away from a knobby but a little more tread pattern than bridgestone's. I put them on a couple months ago and went down a gravel road but after hearing the gravel "clink-clink" on the bike, I had second thoughts on anything other than asphalt.

I hammer dirt roads all the time, in the real loose fresh gravel it can be a handful with some eventful moments. I would also recommend the skid plate if you do this often, i have not noticed to many scratches on the bottom of the cases, but i have put huge dents in the last two filters i have put on. i tried the pirelli syncs and rossos, i didnt feel they made a bit of difference in the dirt, and i did not understand the profile of the rossos, thats the skinniest 180 i have ever seen, i could grind my pegs and still have chicken strips on them, i prefer the bridgestones so far.

Scorpion sync's from the start, 7.1K miles no flats, skid plate, cox oil cooler grille, hugger. Lotta dirt roads in Az.

I couldn't resist. I did about 50 laps on a small dirt oval track. I love Flat Tracking.... I may not do it again though. Don't like getting the Hyper dirty..

Why? I love the dirt more than the street but not on the Hyper. Get the right tool for the job, JMO.
