Shit a Rubber Nickel!
I pulled a bunch of parts yesterday to get them off to the powder coater. In the process, I pulled one of the bolts out of my side stand to get the rear set off. Not paying attention, I went to pull the rear stand to get the sprocket carrier off............I leaned the bike onto the side stand and the stand rotated out of position and I damn near dropped the fucker on its side. I was able to hold it up just long enough until the front tire rolled into my the side of my storage cabinet and stopped it from falling. I got a small scuff on the rim from the sidestand hitting it.
These side stands aren't mounted to the case at all like I had heard before with some Ducs.
Talk about shittin' a rubber nickel............I had enough for a six-pack!
Out!

Rubber Nickel
I first believed this to be a post of discovery, not a post of alarm.

Actually, they are. It's just that on the Hyper (and Multistrada), the upper bolt also holds part of the rearset. You still have two bolts that screw into the case holding the kickstand bracket...

Yeah, I was visioning a hard mount directly to the case. I would expect these lightweight bolts to shear before the case would crack, but then again............

Nope, unfortunately the case tends to be the weak link in the chain, much to the consternation of many Ducati owners who have found out the hard way...

Now, imagine doing that on a bike stand about 3 feet in the air.....
Needless to say, same thing happened to me. It started dropping s l o w l y and all of a sudden, it was like oh $hit, the bike is gonna fall offf the stand and land on the handlebars...
Luckily, it didn't happen.
Buzzkill though................

You ought to try it while sitting on the floor, it seemed like the sun was going down in my shed. Things were getting suddenly dark before I realized the Hyper was closing in on me fast.
Back against the wall, bike on top. Now that's a new position.
No damage, skin grows back and bones can be plated and screwed. Always place body between bike and terra firma!
Lucky for me I had some large cardboard boxes just the other side of my beloved, so I carefully laid her over the other way and crawled out, releaved.

I noticed that before I pulled mine to change the countershaft sprocket. Didn't think it would be a good idea to put the weight of the bike on the stand with just the case bolt. I have two big eye hooks in the ceiling beams of my garage I use with tie downs to stabilize my dirt bikes while on the stand for various maintanence tasks. This worked fine to hold the bike up straight.
