Running on 1 Cyl or 2 Plugs

During my ride through some mountains today I noticed my bike seemed suddenly quieter with less power. Upon pulling off the road I confirmed my exhaust note wasn't the same and it felt like the exhaust wasn't putting as much pressure out as usual.

I turned the bike off for about 20 minutes. Upon restart everything was back to normal.

My initial impression was that it was running on one cylinder. One of the more experienced guys said it sounded like only one plug on each cylinder was firing--thus meaning a plug on on each cylinder was not firing. I'm inclined to agree with his observation.

The rest of the way home everything worked perfectly fine.

The bike did not get too hot. I'm going to look for a loose wire but this was not an intermittent problem so I'm looking for other ideas.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Being new to Ducs, maybe I should be asking if this is one of those cool characteristics of a Duc! Not a complaint, I am totally in awe of the bike. Well, I would like to see better quality hardware (nuts, bolts, etc.). But I'm using that as a reason to upgrade my sockets to a full set of six-points!

This happened to mine. One minute it would run fine and sound great, the next it would seem down on power and the exhaust would sound flat. Finally found out that the nut that holds the two sprockets on that drives the cam belts wasn't torqued properly from the factory. They came loose and wore on the keyway enough that the timing was changing. Wore enough that I had a valve hit a piston. It was all covered under warranty but took two months.

Off to find my tools! It certainly will not hurt to check!

Thanks for the tip!
