Cool the day the music died

ok, they did it. they killed her...

i lent my HM to an experienced rider. however, the torque and the front brakes proved too much. he locked up the front while following me on a twisty country road in CT. luckily he walk away with minor injury's, the HYM was not so lucky.

the damages are: bent front rim, rotors, forks and frame where the lower triple clamp struck the it. the entire front plastics are gone too.

2008 HYM 1100
12 months old in August
9500 miles
full race termi
steering damper
Pilot Power 2CTs
speedy moto clutch and pressure plate
Carbon here and there

Progressive Ins offered me the following:

08 Ducati Hypermotard
Total Loss Breakdown:
ACTUAL CASH VALUE : $ 10,169.50
CUSTOM PARTS/EQUIPMENT : $ 3,724.59
TAXES: $ 851.70
NET SETTLEMENT : $ 14,745.79
DEDUCTIBLE : - $ 500.00
-----------------------------------------------------
TOTAL SETTLEMENT : $ 14,245.79

not what i wanted
not the way i wanted
but 9500 miles on one of the best bikes on the planet
memories to last a life time
and i still have my Loudbike

i am happy!

That really sucks. I think I would be getting some cash out of the buddy to get an identical replacement! Only a complete asshat would not make good on something that was entirely their fault.

What is the insurance companies buy-back amount.

Please ask and reply. It may be worth it to buy it back for $3k and part it out.

PPS- You do not have to accept the insurance companies first offer. You should bump it up to something equal of an exact replacement- or about $2k more.

Sorry to hear about the bike.

I've never made an insurance claim, but it sounds like a pretty decent offer to me. I would look at this way: If you had put the bike up for sale before the crash, could you have gotten 14 grand for it? I'm thinking, no. We've seen plenty of modded HM's for sale for $12,000 or less. So it seems to me you could find a replacement with similar mods and mileage for less money than they're giving you.

And yes, ask about a buy-back. You could part the thing out, OR use some of the parts on your next Hyper!

Are you implying that a used Hyper with a pipe and a clutch cover and 9500 miles on it is worth over $16K?

taxes

Sorry to hear about your bike. One question: What are the taxes that the insurance company is reimbusing you for? I've never had a total loss claim, so I'm not familiar with the process.
