Tools for cam R&R

Does anyone have a source, other than StealCati for special engine tools, specifically: I am setting up to install the DP cams and need the pulley holding tool and the tool that removes the specialized fastener that secures the pulley to the cam shaft.

I discovered Corsair for a few of the tools, excellent place, BTW:

http://www.corsair-industries.com/parts/Ducati%20Tools/

But Cody wasn't totally up on the DS engine, are the cam pulleys used on other models?

The two tools purchased from Ducati sell for almost $500.00 OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried Desmo Times? LT is pretty helpful.

Thanks

Colacin,
Thanks, I sent LT an e-mail, although I didn't see the tools listed on his website he may (should) know where to find quality non-Ducati alternatives.

Well not sure about quality but you could make your own. I just changed my belt rollers and plan on doing cams soon. 18mm socket dremeled for special nuts, and 12mm long socket for engine rotation locking etc. Bunch of 6mm studs screwed into plate to lock roller...
To get the driving rollers off I had to make a tool with two pcd's for locking pins as the new aluminium ones are not the same ! (middle pics )
I say have ago

Great talent

Johnb250,
Wow! Amazing job of fabrication, but not in my league. I have no where near the skill these pieces demonstrate; make sure your heirs offer these to the Smithsonian when they probate your estate. I am going to "make" the tool that reads the cam belts resonant frequency. I picked up enough information from this forum (other parts) about shareware and microphones and sound cards in PCs/Laptops. I will post my set up when I get it together.

The Desmotimes referral by Colacin netted me the cam pulley holding tool at $40.00 (a saving over Stealcati of $100!), I think I'm going to roll the dice with Corsair Industries for their pin socket and gamble on the possibility that Ducati doesn't make a lot of extra money by changing specialized fasteners often. If I end up with an extra tool I can handle the tution; I never met a tool I didn't like.

I was surprised that this thread didn't draw more response with the number of members that out right said or alluded to swapping their cams themselves and talking very heady about cam timing and belt tensioning; large egos behind small keyboards?? I'm ready to pony up the tution (yet again) and learn the hard way...it does stick with you

I, too, was hoping there was a larger response to your thread and inquiry, Road Scholar. I was waiting and hoping for more info and tool sources.

Like you, I never met a tool I didn't like...

Funny, too, how sometimes, often years or even decades later, you find some old "special" tool from some brand fits and works with another brand and application. That's why I can never seem to part with a tool. God only knows how many old Honda special tools I have...

But then none of them had belt-drive cams back in my Honda days...

Thanks, and here's hoping this thread gets some more airplay.
