hyper summit point track day

I took the hyper to the track over the weekend. I rode it during the morning session until lunch. I have a couple opinions.

The bike is great out of the box for the track. I rode in the advanced class on summit point shenandoah. I rode with some very fast riders on dedicated track bikes. It definately was deficient on the straights but had plenty of power to keep up in the tighter parts.

I didn't scrape one foot peg all day with stock rearsets. I did hit my toe slider once, but I changed my riding position so I hung off the bike more and never touched boot again. I also kept my boot close against the frame. I had a three inch beard hanging off of my knee pucks with not one peg touching ground.

I had people cheering me on rounding a real fast 90 mph sweeper because they were so interested in the hyper. I had people just stopping by my pit to look it over. The bike definately draws a crowd.

I did however lap much faster on my track R6 than the hyper. But, that bike has a dyno tuned motor, better tires, top shelf suspension, and many more laps than the hyper. Not to mention, it is worth a fraction of the hyper and I don't mind wrecking it so much!

After all is said and done. If money wasn't an option, I would build the hyper as a dedicated track bike and chose it for the track day duties.

I had the exact opposite opinion after taking mine out on Loudon this weekend.

I am 245 without leathers and have not touched the suspension since delivered from the dealership, so I'd say the suspension was a bit "light" for me.

The bike was very wallowy and did not handle the way I expected, or hoped. Obviously, sorting out the suspension would have helped here, but, c'est la vie.

I hang off when riding but was expecting to grind the pegs somewhat; instead, I caught the side stand twice. I know better to do this in the future. I bounced the back tire out and after it happened again, I backed off the rest of the session.

Loudon is a tight, technical track so maybe the faster tracks are more suitable for these bikes.

As usual, YMMV, and will.

PS- Yes, I had another bike and was there to race that one. Taking the Hyper out was just for fun and getting rid of the chicken strips, which I did successfully.

Shenandoah makes Loudon look like a dragstrip

my suspension is about as well set up as I know how. It makes a world of difference. I didn't ride more than 10 miles without fiddling with the nobs and screws.

I had the exact opposite as CTarna when I took the Hyper up to Loudon a couple weeks ago... Then again I'm a lot lighter at 160lbs without leathers, and I thought the bike was awesome on that track. I rode in the advanced class at the end of the day and was running 4th out of the 5 fastest guys there that day. The only place I had any trouble keeping up was down the straight since the bikes were a 1098, an RSV, 916 race bike, and a built up 1000 Sport Classic (very cool bike).

I thought my main advantage was that the track is tight.
