BMW do, cross spoked rimsets on the R1200GS's, Tard would look very cool with wires!

There's a bunch of Beemers with single-sided swing-arms and laced (spoked) wheels. I think this set-up was first introduced on the 1980 R80 G/S Several years later, BMW "perfected" the design of the rims and can run tubeless tires with these laced wheels. Wished Ducati could have offered the same type of rims on the SportClassics.
Agree that a HyperMotard with wire wheels would look uber cool

I love 6" wide alloy rims and stainless spokes but the problem with the Hyper or any single sided swimgarm wheel is that the hub is off-set.
Cast or forged wheels can have stregth engineered into them, but the structural integrity of a spoked wheel would be compromised if the spoke angles are not symmetrical.
Having said that, bicycles with a 9 speed cluster have the spokes on the gear set side at a very shallow angle compared to the spokes on the other side.
The above photo's by Alfred E Newman show an off-set billet hub with another more centralized spoke ring that clears disc/caliper for left side spokes. FUGLY!
