Setup? Tire Pressure?

Took my Hyper to the track for the first time yesterday. Have some questions about my rear tire.
As the huge pics show, it's shredding. Maybe not. But it looked a lot worse than most of the other folks there. Is this from pressure, ride height or some other suspension screw up I've got going on.

Sorry for the large pics but I wanted you to be able to see it. It looks much worse in person. I know what tires on a properly set up bike normally look like after a track day. Pics don't do the damage justice. This tire had about 100 miles on it before yesterday.

It looks absolutely normal for a track day. You should see what race tires look like after a full day!

No worries...

I honestly don't even see the wear or damage you're referring to... they look like street tires to me after a few spirited runs. Now if they had been under pressure or you had REALLY been wicking it up, you'd see balls of rubber and melted tire collecting around the edges... race OR street compound. And you certainly wouldn't still see the wear mark on the outer edge of the tire in your last photo.

I wouldn't worry about it based on those photos.

you might have a very slight rebound problem if anything. But, I'd be very happy with tire wear like that after a track day. I've had melted rubber sticking to my rims before and burned through a pilot race in a morning.

unfast1 .. time to change your name mate, not a bad effort at all, chicken strips are all but gone.

Out of interest with our very coarse chip here in NZ, after one spirited ride it looks like someone has been tracking it all day or attacked it with a blow torch.

I would not be unhappy with that wear at all.

tire

hello
actually , it doesnt show much that you have been on a track day...the wear is nice , you have generate more heat on your tyres than you did previously on the street , its why you see some "little lines on it"...but regarding the edges, not really enough heat to pick up the couponds left of the traxck surfaces...it is why usaully you have abnd get all those "couponds shit on your bike or tyre edge.."
as an info i would recommand you to drop the tyre pressure than the one you use on the street everyday... being on the track heat up the tryre much more than street driving so as it gets hotter the pressure rise up...
so looking at your trye i would say: break less and get more on the gas...you are not reaching the limit of them yet and have plenty more fun to come on your HM...
....
i hope this help.!

The second pic shows it the best.
I ask because there were folks out passing me like I was sitting still but, their tires looked much smoother in the middle 2/3's than mine. We all had the standard ball's of rubber on our tires but mine looked rougher after half a day. It looks to me like I've got something off when people are passing me and my tires look worse.

No worries.. :)

Hey Unfast,

Two weeks ago I took my 748 SPS on a trackday of 125 kilometers on a brand new (less than 50 km) BT016 rear end. (The BT016 is absolutely fab. btw..!)

During the the day I as you had worries of shredding up my rear and thus had an instructor come over to check the state of it. He took a careful look at the rubber-side, threw a smile and gave me his thumbs up.. "No need for worries.. That tire has been up there temperaturewise, but doesn't yet shows signs of critically smothered tire threads. Keep up the good spirits, and remember to.... (jada jada..."

I still think that its not 100% good on the side for a heavy downpour, so I'll keep her indoor or run her extra careful in such weathers.

TechNote: I did run on slightly below pressure specs, and did slide the back end one or two times - both probably added to the temperature (I haven't really got the experience to know if or how much..)

Sum up:
No worries, mate. Get on the throttle, that tire will hold fine!

-M"
