Possible solution to reduce surging & poor throttle response?
I'm in the process of gathering test data on a solution to reduce surging; poor throttle response, etc. when the stock ECU operates in closed loop mode. Please see my post in the Sport Classic section. This potentially could help HyperMotard owners as Ducati uses the same narrow band oxygen sensor.
Better Throttle Response, Less Surging and Popping? - Clike Here
I'm on day 3 of testing the plug & play adapter on my bike with favorable success. Thanks.

The issue is that most of the bikes have some form of modification, most of which eliminate the o2 sensor entirely and run the bike open-loop. The best fix seems to be a power commander and someone who knows how to tune it for your individual bike setup.

I agree 100%. I'd love to have the DP ECU with a Power Commander and custom map, but I'm not ready to spend $2k to get it done. We actual have a very good Ducati tech in the Milwaukee area @ Corse Superbikes and supposedly he can make PCIIIs run without the DP ECU and no check engine light. The O2 manipulator adapter would be best for stock & lightly modified bikes. I'm running Staintune slip on mufflers & an updated closed loop ECU.

jborders5,
I read that and found it interesting, actually started working on my own and then found a deal on a DP ECU. Do you have the VDST? It would be interesting to see the pulse width change at idle and how far it can go (wider pulse or richer) without throwing a code.
The trick to making a PCIII or any other open loop fuel management device work with the stock ECU is to first acheive stability in the control loop. The lambda signal has to be emulated in a way that simulates a relatvely constant AFR so there is little to no correction. It can be lean, it doesn't matter as your going to correct that.

Yes I gave one a go but with it fitted the engine only runs for a few seconds then wont even fire, the guy making them is very good to deal with and is working on the problem, I think they have been successful on other models so hopefully he can get over the problem with the Hyper, if you send him a PM he is very quick to answer

Thanks krill! Yes he seemed to have had very good results with the other Ducs. I hope he gets it straightened out on the Hyper soon.

Please disregard my last posting, it seems I was trying to fit it in the wrong place, if you get one it's not the wiring under the seat though the plug and socket are the same, my mistake for foolishly taking things for granted
