do I need the S?

I demoed the hyper yesterday and a 2007 brutale 910R today. For me the hyper wins hands down. So I am going to buy one within a week.

So now the question is, do I need the S? I am going to ride for fun maybe twice a week, probably not at the track, just in town and some highway. Why do I need more brakes or a better shock?

I don't plan to customize it much from stock as of now. I like the sound of the stock exhaust.

I do like the red pinstripe on the S wheels, but for $2500 more I can live without it.

Should I be able to get the bike out the door for msrp price? I am going to start from there I guess.

Thanks,
-K

I struggled with the same decision and opted for the standard model. I feel that I chose wisely. I easily made up the difference in price with the modifications of my choice. The standard brakes and shock work great.

I've heard that the S brakes are a bit over board and the ohlins shock isn't the same quality as an aftermarket ohlins for the hyper. The S has forged wheels that are lighter than the standard wheels that I wouldn't mind having. However, the standard wheels are the lightest thing I've ever owned. That leaves the blingy fork coating that is intended to reduce stiction. That belief is still up in the air if it works or not. It certainly wouldn't be noticed by you or I during street riding.

My advise to you.
1. Buy standard
2. upgrade exhaust with Leo Vinces or another nice exhaust (I have termi and love it)
3. Get the beast R intake from tpoparts.com
4. get a power commander and have it dynoed
I figure that should bring you in much under the S with a much more enjoyable bike.

I'd buy that one before a new Standard for sure! Price is still $13.5K or offers?

I bought the 'S', next time, maybe not. The standards wheels look a bit too chunky 'round the hub for me. The Ohlins still needs a re-shim and the forks on both models suck, they have sealed cartridges = no re-shim. 5w fork oil is the biggest and cheapaest difference you can make to your bike, it reduces the high speed compression harshness. After that, every mountain is your oyster, enjoy!

5th time

I am pretty sure I have seen a thread like this 5 times now.

To each his own, but given the extras and the price for those extras (wheels are a little more than just a red stripe )

The answer is:

BUY THE S!

Do I get the Camaro or the Z-28?
Do I get the Barracuda with the slant six 225 or a Hemi 'Cuda?
Do I get a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a cup or a hot fudge sundae?
Do I get a Celeron or a Quad-Core?

We can go on forever, but the point is the same...

I almost bought the S, but for a SIGNIFICANT discount (with all the extras on my bike included), the standard model was pretty hard to pass up. Hell, it's lightyears better than my 916 so who am I to complain?!?

PS - I would have liked to have the S wheels and brakes.
