Bigger oil cooler
Any of you guys topside have quick access to Lochhardt Oil Coolers?
Ozzy climate predominately hot, but can get wet/cold. Need bigger oil cooler with thermo, 600 series Lochhardt may be the go but I would love some body to hold one up to their Hyper and guesstimate fitting/clearance issues etc.
I am prepared to change front cylinder inlet tappet cover and manufacture all new fittings/hoses etc.
Summer open road cruising can keep 110*C on the dial but a sudden downpour will drop it to 50*C. Winter I have to use a Taiwan thermo (duct tape over the cooler) for the first hour or two until the sun warms them there hills.

Doesn't oil flow in the opposite direction down there in Oz? I think I remember reading that somewhere...
Maybe that is your problem. ;-)

Yeh! It's reported that world oil supply is going down hill fast, so we're gunna have the last reserves. Bugger, that means George W is on his way.

I had my bike parked next to a MHE the other day; the coolers looked pretty similar. The Hailwood had significantly more surface area ... I wondered if it could be adapted to our bikes. Hmmmmm...

Bigger oil cooler
Skip the lockhart.
Go for a new style plate cooler, just larger than factory.
B&M super cooler with thermostatic fan, about 200 USD.

That things a HONKER.
With that big ol' hunk of metal out front will he still be able to yank cool wheelies?

Question for you guys.
Specially for the people that have the oil flowing backwards...
What temp differences do you see when you tape up the cooler?
Or maybe someone on this side of the equator can go for a quick run - taped up and opened up.
It's been said that our bikes don't need a bigger cooler, but a proper check is in order.....
PS The NCR cooler looks the business too. I can't make out if it's in £, $ , or some other currency...

I put 1 strip of duct tape about 2" wide accross the top of the cooler, when temp is around 95*C I remove it and drop about 10 degrees. In rain, oil temp can plummet into the 40's.
I want a cooler that has a thermostat and oil by-pass because normal operating range is 80 ~ 110*C. I have seen 123*C under pressure (GSXR). The fan option is of more benefit in traffic, my riding is all open road/mountains. On hot days at speed a fan may not improve airflow thru the cooler but a larger surface area will help cooling.

You should probably just get a Gold Wing and not worry about the oil temps
They have rockin chair seats available these days
