Chain Length?
Can anyone confirm whether I need to go to a longer than stock chain if I switch to a 15/44T sprocket combo? If so, I am going to just switch over to a 520 setup. Thanks!
Out!

I didn't bother to count the links or compare to my stock chain but I think the 15/44 requires an additional link to get proper chain tension. Get the 520 setup... less rolling resistance and weight with a RK GXW or XW chain.

Generally, no you don't need to change chain length for modest sprocket changes. But, chains come a few links too long anyway so you should be good.

See my post here: Yank My Chain
Stock length is 104.
going to a 44 would require a 106.
FYI, Sprocket Center in Newport Beach is offering the DID ERV3 chain for something like 130 bux which is by far the cheapest I've seen anywhere. One of the best chains y ou can get.
I will report my impressions on Wed.

Thanks! Once again I am going to take a $150 project and make it $300 just to get a cool looking sprocket and carrier. I better buy my header pipe first.
Out!

there is a guy on ebay that sells 520 kits for 196.
excellent quality, afam rear, some other front, carrier is really nicely anodized.
$150 project into a $300 one....
at least don't change anything on the bike the night before a ride
Specially header pipes and the like.....grrrr.

You can get them from Ducati for something like $200
The ERV3 is 100 times better chain...
