I've even met fast Harley riders, the truth is there are fast riders who ride every conceivable contraption ever invented by man, but there are also many slow riders who own very fast bikes.
My observation is, there are two main groups of slow riders on fast bikes.
1. The old blokes who rode when they were young but for the last twenty years have been making babies and paying morgages. Todays bikes are twice as fast and their skills have some what faded.
2. The young blokes who have only been riding a few years, had a 250cc restricted license for 12 months and then bought a 600 sportsbike.
On a group ride over mountains we all suffer from ego and at the very least pressure ourselves to keep up, the easy way to do this is to go fast in a straight line. Unfortunately there are no consumer/retail/medical organizations prepared to address this problem by offering free cornering/braking courses to the masses.
They are dieing like flies over here.
The dumb part is, group 2 riders who can't keep up trade their 600's for a faster 1000cc sportsbike, the extra weight and power just compounds the problem.
What can WE do? When we ride with the less experienced we should coach them, and not by saying "keep up you pussy".
Go to 'Halls of wisdom' section of this forum and print out the thread on 'Street Riding - THE PACE'. When you cruise the straights it allows slow buddies to keep up, corner entry and speed is set early, not in a mad scramble for brakes and lower gears. As the emphasis is on correct lines, turn in point, corner speed (slow in fast out) etc, we can coach the less experienced by an example that may keep them riding for years.
If this sounds like a ramble by an ol' fart, your right, but at least I've survived thus far. I'm 50 and run Pranged Motorcycle Transport (PMT), I see the carnage that should not have been!!!
