Cored Exhaust??
Looking for more noise, and want a quick fix till I decide what full system I want on my bike. Has anyone core the pipes on a hyper? how does it sound and does it throw the CPU out of what? If anyone has cored thier some directions or atleast some helpful hints might be nice.
Thanks

I guess the real question is the A/F ratio. Who all has cut their air box? does it require a a power commander or DP ECU??
I am at 2800ft above sea level and we have and averge of 15% hummidity. Doesnt the HM run lean from the factory? how lean? will doing these mods push it to far with out adjusting the fueling? Im not really concerned about power for now. Just want a little more sound

Interesting reading
Try www.moto-one.com.au/performance/#2v
These guys are in Melbourne Aust, at sea level so there are differences to your situation. They haven't done a Hyper either but their experience may shed some light.

ok I sent and e-mail to Brad at Moto one. Here is his responce.....

many people would do what you describe and ride any without another thought to tuning. i don't think it will make that much difference, but it's a case of you either do something or don't. the problem with the later bikes is that doing something tends to be more involved and expensive than previously.
try it and see how it goes. you could dyno it and see how the mixture is as well as how it feels on the road. and you really need to find someone local to you that you trust who can do the required tuning bit for you - that's often the biggest issue.

So I think I will just do it and see how it works out for me. I am a little hestitant because the closest Ducati shop would be AMS and they are about 5 hours away.

OK I went ahead and did it today. It was sort of a PITA but it sounds AWSEOME!!!
Basiclly here is how it went
#1 remove pipes. It pretty straight fwd take off. you will have to remove the license plate bracket and the side covers. then seperate the 2 cans
#2 drill out the rivets. They are stainless so go SLOW with the drill and use a good bit. just drill them untill the tops come off. Then use a blunt punch (like what you use to set a nail) and hammer the base of the rivet into the pipe. You will hear it drop out and it will leave the hole nice and clean. you could drill the rivets all the way out but that is REALLY tough and would probably eat up some bits.
#3 grind or cut the fake end thing off the can. It like there is this little raised piece with 3 tabs holding it on. I used a grinder and cut it at the weld.
#4 cut the real end off the can. For this I use a plasma a torch or cut off saw would work but plasma's are the best. You will also need to cut around the outlet hole as well. The the end will come off and you can see the inside of the exhaust can.
#5 Remove the small pipe that originally was welded to the exhaust tip. This is tough because its hard to get into the can to get it. I ended up using a metal chisel to free it up a little and a pipe wrench to twist it free.
#6 weld it all back together. It doenst have to be weled solid... just line it up and weld it enough that you know it is there. weld the fake end cap back on too. if you dont have a welder Im sure a local muffler shop would weld it up for a couple of bux
#7 put the aluminium caps back on and rivet them in place with 5/32 rivets. I used stainless that are hard on cheap rivet gun though. I think aluminum rivets would be fine.
#8 put the exhaust back on the bike... use loctite on the bolts!!!
#9 Listen to that sweet sweet Ducati roar.
This is how I went about doing it. the hole job probably took me 4 hours. Taking the exhaust off was the most time consuming part. I dont think you have to be a mechanical guru to pull this off...but you will need some tools to make it easy.
for my next job I amd thinking of sealing off the left muffler and figure out a way to make it a dummy with a removable end cap. So that I could use it for Storage maybe for a fuel bottle. Two Bothers did made a set up the the Honda VFR that was like that.

It looked stock...with the exception of the exit hole in the pipe is bigger.
The sound was WAY better... not a ton louder but alot deeper and more full.
