7500 mile service cost
Just got the call from the dealer that my bike is ready for pick up from its 7500 mile service, $685, ouch. I signed up to have the full service completed by the dealer so i am assuming they did it all. I have not talked to the tech to see if any of the shims needed to be changed. I hope they didn't F anything up cause it has not given my any proplems so far. i have 8200 miles on it. anyway i have not seen any post with the cost for the 7500 mile service so i thought i would post it up.

After hearing this cost, I will be performing that service myself. I figure if I buy half of that cost in tools, I will be far ahead.

Pay Back
I sourced around for a shim kit and found the best deal (on earth?) at:
http://www.emsduc.com/
I spoke with Mike, super helpful, who also sold me a very comprehensive manual for setting desmo valves.
The cost of the shim kit + manual + gaskets is way lower than a "valve clearance check" (whether or not anything is "adjusted"--at the dealer).
My dealer has a very good wrench (Wagner), but can't hold a candle to me when it is my machinery.
DYI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok so how many here do thier own service and what is involved? I am resonable mechanically inclined but alittle hesitant to jump into a valve ajustment.

This is what my $685 got me. new air filter, new fuel filter, new plugs, fresh oil and filter (witch they way over filled, receipt says 4 qtrs, i think they put all 4 in, i only have to put 3 1/4 qrts in when i do the oil and filter, anyone have a good tip of draining some oil besides pulling the plug?) checked valves, they did not have to touch a shim, they said they were all spot on. i was a little surprised cause i tend to wind it out quite a bit. checked and adjusted belt tension, and checked brakes, chain and nuts and bolts. calibrated FI, reflashed ECU. it def is running smoother, no more surging at slow speeds, and i can blip the throttle without it coughing and wanting to stall. I think i will invest in some software and shims and do the next service myself.

The belts do not need to be changed until 12K or two years.
I'm also not sure why they did the air filter, fuel filter, and new plugs. WTF??? It seems a bit early for all of that.
$685 is just stupid. I just had the DP cams and ECU installed as well as the valves done (almost all of them needed shims), TB sync, set the CO, degreed the cams, and reset the belt tension and it totaled less than $300.
If your in the New England area shoot me a pm and I'll put you in touch with Eric (formally of BCM fame) if you need any service done.

$300 for a shim kit isn't exactly cheap either. My other two bikes cost me $70 a piece.

Each valve on a Duc has two shims, an opener and closer shim. These shims require lots more machine work to make than your common standard flat shim.
