Hypermotard on "Superbikes".... slow death

I was perusing SPEED the other night and saw Jason Britten and the crew doing a cover piece for ICON on the show. They used a Ducati Hypermotard for the shoot(one of the employees bikes). So Jason does a 1/4 mile long wheelie and kills the motor....smoke bellowing out the exhaust, oil all over the place. The bike's engine is essentially destroyed from oil starvation. I thought Ducati had fixed this problem with their newer engine's??
I know not many owner's of this bike will not be doing mile long wheelies but this is pathetic engineering from the folks at Ducati. Not only in regard to this model but other models have the same issue's too!

Well I always said if you invest money in a Duc. is not for doing wheelies.
You go an buy something cheaper; in the case if something is damaged doing a stunt, the fix will not cost you that much.

Are ya sure it wasn't from the way the air box is designed before the remarks?

A proper "aftermarket" crankcase breather would fix that rather than let the oil come out the crankcase breather tube and follow the "vent tube" back up to the airbox....therefore dumping oil into the intake.

Love,

a supah-dupah SQUIDDDDDD!!!!

Im calling BS all day long on this.

#1 I have a few ducs and yes squid and all I wheelie every now and
then without this issue.

#2 Ducati needs to step it up with dumb issues like this. Keep in mind
they base allmost everything they do around thier RACE heritage.
The last time I checked from Moto GP to SBK they do wheelies down
the straight all the time when they win.

I guess what Im saying is for how much money a duc cost and for
the type of bikes they are it seems to me that they could make a bike
that the japs have made for much cheaper without stupid issues.

I can hear the squids now after watching SUPERSQUIDS saying "look at
the duc its spewing oil after a simple wheelie."

Not good for the brand at all
and enforces the whole ducati is not built that well.

Im not saying this is my view as I have my share of ducs and love them
all.

Ok flame away

That's all I was sayin...whether that s good or bad, that's anybodies guess.
I've seen lots of Ducatis wheelied for long distances with no problems expected or realized. The point is, the one on national TV looked like it ate itself.

If that's a fault of the breather, well I'd much rather have all that oil dumped into the intake and burned rather than all over my rear tire.

Long wheelies harmful?

I guess you can fix it by doing some re-routing of hoses, but i'm not going to worry about it since my bike will never do a wheelie like that again!
