Likes and dislikes of my HMT

2008 Hypermotard standard model, DP open clutch case and red clutch plate, DP race seat, -1 front sprocket and DP wind screen.

Likes:

1) Looks. Funky, but I like that it looks unique
2) Handling is superb!
3) Plenty of grunt, but I of course want more
4) Best sounding stock exhaust I have ever owned, although that will be upgraded soon.
5) Comfortable

Dislikes:

1) Brakes are not as strong as I expected. Less strong than the ones on my FZ1(but those were upgraded).
2) False neutral between 5th and 6th, which has existed on all 4 Ducs I have owned(07 S2R1000, 07 S4RS, 07 999s Team USA, 08 Tard). You would think that Ducati could have worked that out by now?
3) Bike stock runs too damned lean. No reason to be this lean! I get popping on decel, and I can feel a lean surge at low throttle inputs. Very annoying. I am afraid to get the Zard slipon and make it worse! So I feel like I have to get the DP Termi slipon in order to get the ECU and fueling where it is supposed to be. I hate spending $1400 to get the bike to run the way it should run new off the showroom floor.

Other than those negatives, it is a ripping fun bike! Feels great, wind blast is not bad at all, no more than my cruiser.

The race seat is a bit hard, but that will break in and soften up. I hated the stock seat. Felt like a couch cushion, very cheap feeling.

All in all, it is a wicked bike, I just wish that Ducati would work on their gearboxes and not set the bikes to run an AFR around 14 or so. I understand wanting to pass emissions, but gimme a break.

Do you have the S model or the base model? I'm just asking because I'm surprised that you find the brakes weak. The brakes on my S are just unreal.

I have the base model.

I just came off a 2007 FZ1 with Traxxion Dynamics and Penske race suspension, and EBC Pro-Lite rotors, Galfer braided lines, HH pads and CRG levers... So my opinion may be a tad jaded. LOL

My real gripe is the fact that the bike is lean as hell.

Are you going to do a cartridge kit for the forks on your Hyper? I'm planning on getting the Race Tech 25mm kit I think. It's next on my list after I get the full Termi system installed.

I don't really have any major issues with the front, I just haven't found the forks to be exceptional or anything. I'd like to try an improvement.

I am going to have Traxxion Dynamics install their AK20's or whatever model internals they offer now, and have it sprung for my weight, and put a Penske shock on the rear that offers ride height adjustability. They put the Penske 8983 on my FZ1, and it was awesome.

Well, duh, how else do you think Ducati got a 30-year ol 2-valve motor design to pass current emission standards? Be glad that they did, else you wouldn't have a HM to ride at all.

Fortunately, it is something easily rectified with a different exhaust and ECU.

I LOVE almost everything about the HM. I Hate the way I feel when the front end comes up too fast in second gear.

I'm looking foward to going to GP shift on my Hyper, I notice less false neutrals when hammering DOWN on the shifter.

Can thoroughly recommend a change to 5w oil in the forks, massive improvement in high speed compression damping = ALL HARSHNESS REMOVED.
