Surging
I get a little surging at low RPMs. This is obviously only a problem in 1st gear but is annoying when creeping along in traffic or making a turn when first starting off. I assume this means that the bike is running a little lean? I do get some decel pop to support this conclusion. Is this something that the dealer can correct under warranty?

Mine does the same thing. A little lean surging, and some pop on decel.
VERY annoying.

its a BIG air-cooled twin, it don't go right under 20kph in 1st! live with it or buy an il4. no manner of tuning will get a big ass high comp twin to just go right at low speed in 1st

Likewise. I'm pretty sure its just a first gear thing, not a big deal. Can be a little annoying but its the price you have to pay for absurd wheelie power.

Like previous Ducks I've had, the Hyper does this too. Usually, the DP ECU will get rid of it, or you can also get something like the Power Commander. It's just tuned lean for the feds.

Isn't surging strictly a matter of mismapping on the EFI not the amount of cylinders? The Jap. EFIs are just better mapped than the Euro ones. My BMW surges too but at a higher rpm.

ducati sets the air/fuel mixture very lean to make the bikes pass eu pollution standards.
the surging goes away completely with either an ecu upgrade to one of the dp race ecus, or you can use a powercommander to remap the fuel mapping.
you can remove most of the surging on us bikes without replacing the ecu by removing the charcoal canister and plugging the throttle bodies where the canister hoses connect to them (use a proper length screw and washer to plug the holes ... don't use rubber hose plugs). this will remove possible air leaks, which lean out the fuel mixture even more.

I get a surging at cold idle, but it smooths right out with any throttle input. This is with the race ECU.
