Did Newcombs Ranch test ride...compared to Multi
I have a Multi and have been interested in the Hyper since I first saw it and finally got to test ride one today up in ACH.
It worked out bad and good....
So I go up on my Multi and sign up for a ride at 11:30. I got to get a Hyper S with the slip on termis... So we take off and I'm enjoying the Hyper ride and I'm comparing since I just got off the Multi.....and about 15 minutes into the ride the tranny locks into 3rd gear and starts surging, and I'm thinking is this thing running out of gas?.. then I hear some grinding and pull in the cluthc and pull over.... the bike is stuck in between gear and making a sort of grinding noise, shifter won't budge up or down... so the clean up guy pulls over and I tell him my problem, he says I have to wait until they can get a truck up there to bring me back since the don't have cell reception...LUCKLY the lead guy gives me his bike for the ride back, but every body is gone by then so I get to ride solo back to Newcombs while the Ducati guy waits for the truck... So hell it's on now I have a fresh bike and no one to say I can't go fast or try shit on it....
So I get to really test ride the bike now, and love it...Here are some wierd things I didn't expect... The first bike I rode had the slip on Termis yet the stock Hyper S that I rode back had more pull from the motor than with the slip ons..not a good investment for slip on as I see it... Secondly my 04 Multi with full Arrow and a 1000cc motor pulls much harder than the Hyper 1100. Maybe with with the full Termis the Hyper would grunt like the Multi, but my Multi is quite a bit heavier and gives up 100cc so I didn't expect that.....but the Hyper was a much smoother and better suspended bike with more linear power.... Last the brakes on the S where great, very proggresive and smooth, but both Hypers had alot of slack in the lever before acutuation of the brakes... It was a wierd feeling to pull in a half inch or more before the brakes start biting, but great brakes once the play is pulled out. These are things I could easily get used to though, just time on the bike...
Overall, love the bike and you guys who have them are lucky. I'm looking forward to getting one... it suits my riding style better than the Multi, but I think only because of my MX background..plus it is a better looking bike. BUT If I did longer rides, or went out of town the Multi is better overall. Not a hugh difference but enough for me to go to the Hyper.

Several people had the gear box/shifter problem. I don't recall anyone complaining about the throw of the front brakes. Mine bites with a lot less pull than what you described. The rear brake has a lot of throw, but if you pull the rear caliper and raise it above the master cylinder when you bleed, it gets harder than a ministers crank!
Interesting about the power delivery. Never rode a multi, but I think the Hyper has a lot of snort for a bike that light.
Out!

The transmission locking up on it's own test bike. Ghezzi, Are you sure you don't work for Ducati?

I was at the ACH test ride. It was interesting.
I gave my 12:30 slot to a friend that doesn't own a hyper and had to wait until 1:30 otherwise. It seems some guy locked up the tranny on one of the test bikes that he was slated to ride. Bike # 10, I believe
When I got up there early in the morning the coordinator came up to me and complimented a wheelie I had done earlier. I denied the wheelie (standard practice) and he told me if anyone rode one of his bikes that way they would be "walking home".
So I'm thinking, if that guy thought THAT was a good wheelie, wait 'til he sees what I do on his "S" model. I had gone there just to watch the circus and hang with some friends but this comment got me to sign up.
It all worked out. I helped a friend and got to meet the guy that won the Pike's Peak race and that was cool.

Well the gear lockup isn't localised to their dry clutches, I had the same problem when I test rode a 696 at 80km on the odo coupla weeks ago.

Yep it was bike #10,the fact of the matter was I hadn't even shifted and it happened while cruising about 6k on the straight...it happened without a shift occuring.... it was quite wierd, just a surging the grinding and it was done..
the scary thing is I read about this happening on this forum, but shit it is the same motor as the multi and Multi weren't known for dropping trannies...

trannies ............ trannies? What have transvestites got to do with Ducati? Maybe there's too many in Europe and they are trying to get rid of 'em.
