MUST HAVE mods?

Ok, sold my 2007 FZ1 and getting an 08 Mypermotard, base model in the next week or so.

I know that the FZ1 will run circles around the HMT, but I can address most of that as time goes on, except for sheer speed and power. The Fizzie has exhaust, airbox mod, secondary butterflies removed, PCIII and a good tune, plus Traxxion Dynamics forks(AK20 internals), Penske 8983 race shock, HyperPro steering damper, EBC Pro-Lite rotors, Galfer lines, CRG levers, and a ton of other crap. Handled like a dream, but it just wasn't a Duc. :-)

In any event, I am getting a red HMT, and it will have some accessories on it. The DP Comfort Seat, a black open clutch basket, DP red clutch plate and the second gen windscreen.

Later I plan to add a Termi full exhaust kit, and a DP steering damper and of course the carbon fiber goodness.

Anything else that I need to do, from a performance point of view? Any simple, cheap and effective mods that I can do until I get the more expensive exhaust and damper?

I am reading up here and trying to catch up, as I have not been here much since I sold my 999s Team USA and S4RS, but if there is a list of the commonly accepted "must haves", I would love to see them.

Thanks, and it's great to be back!

I'd recommend a lighter flywheel and a 520 chain/sprockets with a 44 tooth rear. The flywheel really helps with handling and making the motor spool up quicker. It just feels snappier overall. The gearing made first a bit better for in traffic stuff and made third more useful for cornering.

One of the cheapest and most effective performance mods is to lower the stock gearing. Going down 1 tooth on the front made a huge difference on my GT but I still haven't figured out if the HM needs it. I probably need a few hundred more miles in the saddle to know for sure, but I'll probably wind up going up a couple of teeth on the rear sprocket.

Oh, and a rear hugger is a must if you want to keep your bike reasonably clean.

Oh yeah, I had forgotten the -1 front sprocket, something I have done on my last 7 or 8 bikes.

Does the HM need it?

And I will add the rear hugger to my list.

Thanks, and keep em coming!

As for must have mods, many have felt that the Fi is a little touchy on the HM and the best way to cure that is with either an exhaust setup or a PCIII or both. Of course an open clutch is totally Ducati and you've covered that. I have dropped my front sprocket down to the 14T DP part and it is most likely the best $50 bucks I have spent. No real difference on top but makes 2nd gear more usable. I haven't got the hugger yet but it is on my list. Many of the mods are just up to your individual taste and $$$$$ you want to spend. Have fun and welcome.

If you don't replace the clutch/brakes reservoirs with some nice Rizoma reservoirs, you ain't shit! All the carbon in the world can't hide those urine sample bottles.

Out!
