the brakes on my s
OK, the brakes have always seemed a bit "grabby". Especially on the track.
But lately, they are making a god aweful noise. I disassembled, checked, cleaned and buttoned everything back up. I wasted my time, the pads are fine, there is no patina on the pads or the rotors. No sign of overheating, nothing. They make an almost metal to metal sound. I don't notice it while riding, but while pushing the bike around our coasting to a stop it sounds terrible. There is also an "engagement click" sorta sound as you first pull the lever. The noise comes from the caliper assembly.
Does this sound familair to anyone else? Please share your knowledge.
thanks

Mine do the same thing. Especially from around 8mph to 0mph with moderate pressure. I originally thought it was harmonics and the carbon fiber fender. I put some rubber washers under the mount points and that didn't help at all.
I complained to Pro Italia and they pulled pads and resurfaced (I'm guessing, hit it with sand paper) It was better for about 20 stops and started again. I remember hearing that Brembo had a newer part number for pads, but they're pretty expensive.
Try scuffing the pads and rotors and see how it is.
The clicking is probably the pads moving from the center to the inside edge of the caliper and maybe some slack in the rotor buttons.

Mine are doing the same thing. They are being replaced under warranty. My dealer said they are having the same problems with the 696 rear brakes and they have to replace them as well.

Could you get me the part number for the pads that they put in? I'm probably going to go back when I have some time.

Yes, please pass info along for you dealer's warranty.
Is there a Ducati notice to replace if asked or is your dealer just being nice?

The click sound would be common with floating rotors. No noises from my S and a tiny, tiny bit of drag with no lever pull

yeah, that all sounds a little fishy.
usually, i'd think you guys on new bikes are just being neurotic (you should hear the noises my old girl makes!), but this definitely sounds like something's off.
has anyone tried pad glue? there's stuff you put on the back of pads that stops squeeling by, essentially keeping the backs of the pads glued against the piston. It's super soft, like silicon, so it comes off with your fingers.
it's been around forever. any auto parts store has it.
unless there's truly a faulty part that someone can identify, maybe it's worth a shot.

I guess it'd be worth a shot....I wish I could get the rotors bead blasted for little or no money.

I'll get the numbers when they change them. After the service manager rode the bike he said something was definitely wrong with the pads.
They are also replacing my rear tire that started coming apart at 200 miles.

Thanks for the input. I'll take the bike in based on what is written here.
I know the typical sound floating rotors make, this is a bit different. The floaters on my 1098S make a "click" sound as well, but the "click/clunk" sound on the Hyper in comparison to the 1098 further convinces me something is not exactly right.
As far as being a bit paranoid--yep! I admit it, when it comes to brakes, I am solidly trepedacious (not actually a word) and a bit paranoid. A failure in the brake department spells certain pain. The bike has over 3K miles on it and I know the noise is different and by different I mean worse than it was even a 1000 miles ago. The 1098 isn't even broken in yet and this is why I appreciate everyone's input... I have no basis upon which to apprehend the problem. So thanks!
