Charcoal Canister

Hey there, I just picked up my new HyMo on Saturday and having a blast breaking it in. Has anyone taken off that ugly charcoal canister hanging off by the horizontal cylinder? If so, what did you do with the vent line from the fuel tank? Thanks

The vent line can be routed along with the other lines that run down that side of the motor, toward the ground.

I cut mine off up as far as I could and just left it hanging under the fairing.
This is a neat litle piece I look forward to installing.

Has anyone noticed a lower idle after removing the carbon canister? I just removed mine and routed the vent line from the tank along the side of the engine along with all the others, and since doing so the bike idles a little lower and will occasionally stall on me.

I assume this is an after effect of removing the lines from the intake manifolds since this no longer allows the an alternate source of air to the intake other than what passes through the airbox.

Can the idle be adjusted fairly easy on these fuel injected bikes? I'm used to my old carbed monster...

oh yeah, you gotta trash that monstrosity....QUICK.

it's almost as if Ducati itself is so incensed by having to install it in the first place, they chose the most hideously visible location to ensure owners toss them on day 1!

One of those lines that you re-routed is a vacuum line. That line needs to be plugged, this explains your low idle.

This is what I had to do on my 696, I'm sure someone will verify this.

I know it sounds ghetto at first, but one of the best/cheapest/easiest ways I've found to plug a vacuum line like that, is to simply thread a metal screw of appropriate girth into it.

The threads themselves seal the line and then the screw head fits flush against the hose end, so it ends up also being virtually invisible, low-key and exceedingly simple.

Try it. For added security, you can use any adjustable hose clamp to make sure it never backs itself out.

Yeah, I didn't mention it on my original post, but I did plug both manifolds by replacing the nipple with the appropriately sized allen bolt. Even used thread sealer! The only other line was the 1/2" vent line running down from the gas tank so I just rerouted it so it would reach down far enough to tuck in with the other hoses which run down that side of the engine.

UNless I'm mistaken that should be all that's needed right? I remember on my monster I had to "T" into some other vacuum line, but I didn't see the need to on the hyper.
