few ??? about the hyper.
Alrighty.... Ive been off MS for about a year and a half now after selling my 996 (it was a mistake to sell) I have been wanting a Ducati since the day a let it go.
So I am considering the Hyper but want to make sure that its the right duc for me. I live in West Texas so I have to ride about 150 to 200 miles to get to worth while roads. Is it practical to ride a hyper that far for twisties? I would say it would put me doing back to back 400 mile days.
I also do occasional trackdays. I know some of you guys track your hypers... is it a hard bike to track as compared to a superbike or dedicated track bike?
also what is the service schedule on the hyper?? 7K check 15K belts and valve adjustment?
I have other bikes in the stable but If you could only have 1 would it be the hypermotard?

You can't even spell "road" right. Get a hyosung. Better yet, stay home.
Just kidding....400mi in one day would be a deal breaker for me. I LOVE my Hyper but long rides are a bit much for me. Maybe the gel seat from DP would help. I have had my Hyper for just over 2 weeks and I have 1000mi so the whole long trip thing is still fresh. Good luck with the decision.

OK so how many miles have you done in one sitting on the hyper?? and are there other bike that you would do longer days on?
some people are just not cut out for doing long days on a bike.... if you live out here and want to do any good riding you have to put in some miles

Miles are great. The most I have done at one time is 300. My ass was in bad shape and the riding position is great unless the wind is pushing you back the whole time.

The long distance question really depends more on you the rider. Are you able to sit in the saddle for extended periods of time? I have taken mine for 300-400 miles in day without much issue really. The Hyper has a small gas tank so you need to fill up every 100 miles give or take which gives you a little rest anyway. (I think they made the small tank on purpose BTW ) Anyway that said, no it is not a sport touring type of mount and the windblast can become tiresome but if you are only going on that kind of ride once or twice a month then I wouldn't hesitate getting an HM. If you are doing that once or twice a week maybe a different story. The HM is really a great Urban Assault Bike. I use mine 75% urban use and 25% joy riding into the twisties and such. My suggestion is go out and ride one so you can make your own informed decision, its not the bike for everyone. Also just an FYI, the comfort seat is more comfy........

I just rode a super Duke 990 that is about as close as I am going to get to the Duc HM untill I buy 1.
Anyone out there that has ridden both that can give a compare both?
the milage thing isnt a must, I am d not in the market for a touring bike. I dont do a enough long distace riding for that, but I dont want a bike that is really difficult to impossible to do 300-400 in a day.
also what about the service increments?

I've done 570 miles in day. Easy stuff. Comfort seat makes so. This bike is easy on the wrists compared to your old 996. I'm all but giving up on my 748 except for track days (whenever that happens). The Hyper is just so much more comfortable and can do anything as the 748 can with me riding it.

I think you had the right idea about the service intervals...600, 7.5k, 15k or two years for belts...I can't remember for sure about the belt interval. I downloaded the manual off of the Ducati.com site before I got the bike, but it's on my other computer and my manual is in the mail.
As far as quality goes, this bike is top notch. I had a 2002 900ss for awhile and it couldn't compare to the 748. Not so with the Hyper. Top notch.
(No offence to SS owners)

I have ridden both and they more different then similar (I think). The 990 has more hp but makes it in a much different way. It seems much lazier then the HM. That being said they are both really fun to ride and very flickable. I rode about 200 miles on the 990 and 130 on the HM.
The 990 has better wind protection, better long distance seating position. It is just a quick to run out of gas. It turns in slower but is more stable in faster corners. The 990 to me also felt much heavier.
You site much taller on the HM. The HM changes direction much quicker but is a little nervous on faster corners. One thing I noticed was that you could slide back on the seat when blasting down the highway. Once you get to the twisty's slide forward.
