Tunitas and Lobitos Roads

Beware of loose gravel for next several weeks.

Tunitas Creek Road and Lobitos Cutoff were both being chip sealed today.

I'll post in Nor Cal section too, but I wanted to make sure you HM riders knew for sure. Neither of these roads are frequented much by the sportbike crowd.

Thanks for the heads-up! This type of surface can be hard to read. Sticky as hell once the loose stuff is gone.Even when it's "broken in" it looks like a bunch of loose gravel and takes a little confidence and trust to have fun.

You guys get that chip seal crap out there too huh? Worst way to "save money" on paving. There's nothing like cresting a hill and finding that they've chip sealed the road on the other side right before a curve.

Never seen it being done, but I assume they put down a layer of tar(?) then top it with gravel. What sticks, sticks and the rest eventually finds it's way to the edges of the road, and more importantly, the outside edges of the corners! It can be hard to tell what gravel is "stuck" and what is loose.

There are all kinds of chip seal jobs. I have seen where they laid down a nice layer of hot oil and it ended up being a very nice riding surface and I have seen some half ass stuff where the gravel continued to break away months after the work was complete.

Out!

You live in Jersey and you've never seen that? It's all over Hunterdon and Somerset county. The tar/oil ends up seeping up through the stone and can get kind of slippery on a hot day. The stuff is a nightmare.
