Things fall off, check your bike! Locktite, Locktite, Locktite!

I was just cleaning up my bike after today's ride and noticed that my horn bracket was loose...very loose! It mounts to the frame in the point that also mounts what looks like an amplifier (voltage regulator maybe?) just above the oil cooler. Turns out that one of two 8mm bolts holding the voltage regulator had backed out completely and was gone, and the only other bolt was halfway out. This is not a little bolt either, at least 1 1/2 inches long. I did 100% check of the bike a few weeks ago when I lubed my chain, and I'm pretty sure I would have seen it then. I inspect my tires, pressures, and chain before every ride, but admit that I don't look for stuff like this before every single ride. Everyone might want to look at this area on your bike, and locktite these and the oil cooler bolts. I'm going have to get into the habit of spending an extra couple of minutes before rides and check everything.

I was also wondering, if this is the voltage regulator, could it being loose from the frame possibly be related to my bouncing idle when hot issue?

Ive had battery terminal come loose twice, one indicator and something else.

With the battery you get an intermittent miss, just like toggling the kill switch. Give away is the oil temp goes to 'OFF' if you look quick enough, so your little dilemma with the tacho could be related. Time will tell.

Good reminder. I spent some time on Friday looking over the fasteners on my bike and found a few loose ones, but nothing too bad. I didn't check the horn though, so I'll make sure I do that before the next ride.

I tended to check certain fasteners on the GT every 500 miles or so, it's a learning process figuring out which are most vulnerable on the Hyper.

Just be thankful you don't ride a big bore single. Unless I Loctite evrything on my KTMs, they shed parts like crazy. I have been generally impressed, however, with the HM. They seem to have used thread locker on most fasteners except for the 6mm bolts.
