Backing it in?

Can anyone give me a quick run down of how to start learning to "back it in" supermoto style? I've watched a bunch of videos of guys doing it but I can't figure out how they get the slide started.

Do you use the rear brake?

Thanks,

So a good way to start would be to approach a corner, brake hard, downshift once or twice WITHOUT blipping the throttle then module the clutch to control the slide? I've done this before by mistake (messing up my throttle blip) and I remember sliding around quite a bit.

What I didn't get from the article is are you susposed to get this slide going while still on the front brake or not? I'm not looking for the fastest way around the track; I just want to have fun sliding the bike around on the street.

Yes, start your braking first. The entire process of clutching, downshifting, and sliding is done during the braking stage.

I'd really recommend learning to do this on a supermoto, or other beater bike, before trying it on a $15,000 Ducati...

Oh I'll start slowly that's for sure. I just want to get a few little slides going before I try anything bigger. I rode dirtbikes for 5 years prior to getting into street riding so I'm fairly comfortable with sliding tires.

So during the braking phase, you get your slide underway. After that, do you keep the slide going by transitioning back to throttle?

WFO works for me.
I am surprised you ride dirtbikes and still have an issue with pitching it in a corner.
Try riding a dirtbike with full knobs on pavement for an idea of how its suppose to feel on a motard. The fact is, it takes skill and balls to pitch a bike on pavement. You might get hints on the internet on how to do this but you have to be willing to risk it if you really want to back it in.

I haven't really tried it yet to be honest. I only had half a day of riding my Hyper before I had to go back to the arctic for another work shift. It sucks but such is the life of a geologist.

I'm in a work camp but the nearest town is Pelly Bay which is also known as Kugaruuk. We're on a diamond exploration project up here.

What about you?
