Visiting Ducati's factory in Bologna Italy
I just got back from vacation in Europe where we stopped by Bologna in Italy to visit the Ducati factory. This is an awesome experience if you have the opportunity!
Marco Rimondi was not there, so Andrea Venturi set me up with Livio Lodi who gave us a very privileged visit of his museum as he is the expert, we were very lucky. The museum is amazing to see from the Cucciollo to all the MotoGP machines. I was even surprised to see the Cagiva of Edi Orioli which made me dream so much in the early Dakar days...
The Ducati factory visit was fascinating as well from the Hypermotards to the hand building of the Desmosedici engines, a humbling experience! That was a big change from the massively robotic driven BMW factory we visited the week before. This makes you really appreciate the Ducati mechanics and people behind it (no pictures allowed in the factory).
You must include such visit if you go to Europe, the only drawback of going to Europe for vacation is that the Euro exchange rate will kill you!
No pictures allowed in the factory but you can snapshot as much as you want at the museum. Here is the high res full set of pictures.

oops, I fixed the link...
and yes we picked up the Beemer 335i convertible, 306hp is a blast, and active steering is a must on the twisty roads of the Alps, we put 2255 miles on it, we hope to have it back in California in 5 weeks.
BMW F1 engine

Looks like a great trip. Congrats on the new car too.
I'd love to go visit the mother ship but it's not going to happen any time soon. One of these days maybe...
Debby, GT'ing and loving it

Sounds like a dream trip. I've been hoping to do a BMW Euro delivery for years and we almost made it happen last year. Hopefully we'll finally find the time in 2 or 3 years. And a trip to Bologna is a must.
The one big difference is I'd be picking up a 135i.
