brake tech axis rotors ...

here is email reply i received from brake tech -

Thank you for the inquiry John;

Here's the range of options available for your HyperMotard:

The patented AXIS Design Full-Floaters are designed for use with the stock wheels and calipers for simple bolt-on application. These full-floaters in both our Billet Ductile Iron and the new AXIS/Cobra stainless steel series with optimized petal design offer substantially improved performance in terms of both modulation at the lever and overall braking power. Plus we take the unparalleled step across our entire line of performance rotors with the inclusion of technologically advanced and computer controlled Cryogenic processing. This 40 hour deep cycle freezing treatment provides greater thermal stability and reduces wear.

The advanced AXIS Design floating system is many times stronger than conventional semi-floating brake rotors. The heart of this patented design has the floater buttons controlling radial and axial float only, they are non-load bearing. All of the considerable braking forces are channeled through the trademarked Direct-Link architecture comprising over an 800% increase in surface area load transfer as compared to conventional floating brake rotors...simply a far superior design!

Iron provides a higher coefficient of friction over stainless, with more feel and feedback at the brake lever. But get them wet - they're going to rust. If you're a fair weather rider like me, then it's a non-event and not an issue. However, if you ride distances where inclement weather is a definite possibility, you're better off with our AXIS/Cobra stainless steel series in the optimized petal design.

For the hot new Ducati HyperMotard series, we offer two distinctly different brake rotor systems depending on the intended usage, both are 310mm over-size kits. They are terrific in the canyons and at home on the track as well:

DUCATI HyperMotard 310mm Over-Size Kit:
• BT-D100.SK0; 310mm x 5mm AXIS/Cobra full-floaters, $669.95
• BT-D100.K0; 310mm x 5mm AXIS/Iron full-floaters, $714.95

HyperMotard series Rear floaters with center billet aluminum carriers will be coming out late in the year.

On brake pads, if you're looking for the highest performance levels on the street or canyons, go with our new SinterGrip pads. The SinterGrip ST is a HH rated pad with lots of feel and modulation at the lever and a genuine upgrade over the standard OE pads plus they're great for those occasional track days too!.

For racing or frequent track use, the new SinterGrip XRAC is your pad. They're used by many top World 600 SuperSport and Superbike teams including Belgarda Yamaha. The U.S. Factory Yamaha team adopted them last year and are their official race pad for the `06-07 season.
See our pad/compound section of the website for more details on them.

SinterGrip XRAC:
The first is the all-new SinterGrip XRAC series sintered Factory race pads. This is the culmination of our ongoing development of sintered metal technology with the Factory Yamaha teams from both sides of the pond. This formulation offers superb power and control with excellent thermal stability. In addition, it features the introduction of our new and trademarked Array Cooling technology to reduce friction material smearing under severe thermal load conditions. Relatively high initial friction with powerful, but user friendly torque characteristics that offer late braking consistency, lap after lap.

CP2.11 Carbon/ceramic:
Also new is the long awaited and brilliant performing CP2.11 organic series race pads. This replaces the popular and long standing CP911Star carbon/metallic pads with an entirely new friction composition technology incorporating advanced Siloxane polymers into a truly innovative Carbon/ceramic matrix. This is not a case of simply adding ceramic particulates (friction modifiers) to the mix but rather and a new and different approach how organic composition racing brake pads operate. A more progressive formulation than most sintered metal variations providing tremendous power and control at the brake lever with a predictable and reassuring rising torque curve for that added power, deep into a corner – whenever you need it, time after time. Performs brilliantly on stainless and even better on our Ductile Iron brake rotors. Plus very low abrasion as well.

FRONT PADS (1100 Brembo 4pot twin-pin)
• FDB2042P Platinum organic, all-around performance standard, $31.95 ea.
• FDB2042ST; SinterGrip ST Street `n Strip, recommended for stainless, $36.95 per caliper
• FDB2042STAC; Track-Day version of above, $54.95
• FDB2042CP211, Carbon/ceramic; Ferodo race-spec pads, $54.95 per caliper
• FDB2042XRAC, Sintered/ceramic; Ferodo sintered race pads, $68.95 per caliper

FRONT PADS (1100S/Brembo Cast Monoblocks)
• FDB2218ST; SinterGrip ST Street `n Strip, recommended for stainless, $59.95 per caliper
• FDB2218CP211, Carbon/ceramic; special Ferodo race-spec pads, $88.95 per caliper
• FDB2218XRAC, Sintered/ceramic; special Ferodo HP pads, $98.95 per caliper

REAR PADS
• FDB2074P; Platinum, $29.95
• FDB2074ST; SinterGrip ST, $33.95

We hope we have provided you the information you seek, if you require anything additional, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Jeff

Damn, now that's a reply! I'd be curious if anyone has used a set of their pads on an 1100S....mine howl from 5mph to 0mph. 180 dollars to try an new set of pads is a bit steep though.

I'll let you know. I am waiting for my rotors and pads. I ordered the Axis Cobra. 310mm ehhhh haaaa, If this baby diidn't stop well before, and it did! It's really gonna haul down now.

I was told 3-4 week before they ran the production line for the HYM. Hopefully sooner then later.

Your howl is most likely harmonic resonance radiating through your carbon front fender. Mine did the same thing until I installed rubber washers to dampen the vibs. Tap on your front fender and I bet it rattles.
