Exhaust fell OFF!!!

YES, that is O-F-F OFF! I was going down the road at 45 and the entire slip-on system fell onto the rear tire and melted it down in no time!

needless to say I was livid!! and told the dealer to pick their piece of $hit up.

1000 mi = stuck shifter lever

1500 mi = exhaust falls off!

Yea not too happy with the Duke after riding a kawi for 20000 mi and 4 years from brand new and not having ONE problem!

Well the stuck shifter sounds like a mfg defect. However, the exhaust is most likely an installation problem. Was the exhaust installed by the dealer? If so, they should take responsibility for the problem and replace it.

That sucks.

Since this is my first Ducati and my first air cooled twin not of Japenese or Amerojap make I have once again learned the importance of maintenance and the pre- ride walk around.

I look at the problems I have had and chalk it up to the experience that comes with owning a Ducati. At least that is how I justify keeping it around.

I would think the dealer will cover the parts and repair under warranty. If not and even if so, I would still fire off a letter to DNA.

DNA was responsive to my letter, it took a few days but they did respond.

The service writer at the stealer said that he thought it would be unlikely that Ducati covered the damaged tire. It was melted down to the point of no tread and pieces of rubber slung everywhere as if I did a burnout. (I pulled over and stopped within 15-20 seconds).

I just laughed and said are you KIDDING ME! he got an attitude right back and said he would try but doubted I would get any results.

This service manager at our closest stealership has tried to F' my roomate and I on several occasions. 1st service for my roomate 100.00 even...they tried to charge me 180.00! for the same exact thing!...

His bike would not idle at all and would stall constantly a few thousand miles into it. He took it to the stealer with the problem at 6000 miles and they tried not to cover it because the 7500 mile service calls for an idle adjustment. They wanted to charge him $200! He had to bitch with them and threatened to talk to the owner before they covered it.

Thats such BS. And I bet you paid a set-up charge when you bought the bike - the dealer should be replacing the tire! Ducati Dealers do seem in general to really get their eats off of service and labor. Charge 1.5 hours for .5 hour of actual work.
There is an interesting article about this at
http://www.bikeland.org/story.php?storyID=30661

I think I may buy the service manual also to start doing some oil changes, etc.. $200 for an oil change is an asbsolute horse rape
