having problems
I have my hyper and have taken it to the dealer for an oil leak. The oil leak is coming out of the lower cylinder on the left side. I took the cover off for my self to have alook and it is the cover where the end of the cam is. It has a green oring gasket. This will be the thrid trip back to dealer. Only put on 80km before it did it again. Has anyone seen or heard of this or can give me some help. The only thing that I can think is that something is warped

oil leak
has anyone who has had this problem resolved it with out smearing silicone on there cover? after 15000 miles my rear vertical cylinder cam end cover has started leaking. i have replaced the oring with a new one, but it still is leaking. starting to wonder if it is actually a rocker shaft oring leaking.

My Hyper sprung a leak out of the vertical cylinder side cam cover (left). For some reason it is becoming common on the 1100DS engines. The o-ring that seals it is the same as the horizontal cylinder, but for some reason the horizontal cylinder is not as common. Ducati has replaced o-ring #886.4.060.1A with 886.4.060.2A. I figured I would supply this number since it isn't in the parts list yet. Supposedly it is back ordered from the dealerships but I found it at commonwealth cycles. http://www.store.commoto.com/parts-ordering.php.
The dealer used engine case sealer, (which I have found that most Japanese motorcycle shops make this available for purchase) to seal up my leak until the new oring becomes available.

New Oring
i am not sure of the part numbers, i will look at the packaging when i get home, but when i ordered my new oring, i came to the dealer with the part number off of my hyper manual CD and the dealer told me that part number had been replaced with a new part number and ordered me the new one. the new one is black not green like the OEM one i took out. it is still leaking though. i am pretty sure i got the latest. i will double check when i get home. maybe i messed up the oring when i installed it. i lubed it with grease, but it was a real tight fit.

The number off the parts manual is the old number "01A". The "02A" is the latest one. It will show up if you type the number on commonwealth's website. So sounds like you ordered the old o-ring. My guess is they changed the size. Maybe they are having a problem with them being too large and getting damaged on installation.

O-ring
intresting, i know the descrition on the one i got was "hypermotard-monster 696" were as the description on the one from your link is "1000 M-SS/03" it is half the price i paid from my dealer too. I paid $4.99 from the dealer. I hope this is the answer to my problem. thanks.

When I did my valve check, my vertical cyl. exhaust valve cover o-ring was found nicked. It didn't leak, but I replaced it. What was strange is that the vertical cyl. had the black o-rings and horiz. cyl. green o-rings. I'm an engineer and work with o-rings all the time. The compression fit seemed a bit on the tight side and may make damaging them eaiser on installation. FWIW, you don't have to buy o-rings from the dealer. These are metric parts available for a fraction of the cost from a supplier. You can get a bag for what one costs at the dealer.
